I would guess that you would be lucky to get much more than 20 on average. My g8 gets 20-21 mixed with a 6.0 and it has DOD. The AWD will probably hurt you by about 1 mpg on both the highway and around town. The buy in shouldnt be as bad compared to a newer suv. I had one with a 4.2 and it was a pig. It would have been much better with the 6.0 or even the 5.3.

City you won't get 18...city is around 13 maybe 14.. highway 18 to 21. I ended up converting mine to 2wd, the trannies are the weak link..

On a road trip I recently took with my '08 AWD TBSS I averaged 17.2 MPG on the highway.

P.S. I still love driving it. Its the longest I've kept any vehicle.

I don't know what they are going for now, but when I bought my G8 I factored in the purchase price to my decision about mileage. I was looking at paying around 30K for a used BMW or Lexus that got better mileage than a G8, but I payed much less than that for a clean used G8 with low miles. So, even though I get worse MPG than those other cars, it would probably take 5-7 years to make up the difference if you factor in original purchase price. You also have to thank about whether or not it will put a smile on your face when fire it up. This new DD will give me the time to build my PT car up the way I like.

since I've had a C5Z and a TBSS at the same time I can say its a different kind of fun. I've autocrossed my TBSS a few times and it handles way better than anyone gave it credit for (the 2/3rds to 1/2 the field I beat were real shocked they got beat by a SUV)

it would definatley get used for autocrossing..lol..thats what i use the vette for since my camaros are not track worthy at moment..and the AWD would come in handy for sure

I would be surprised by that. Maybe if you were on flat highway going very reasonable speeds. I had a 4.2L and at BEST I got 20MPG mixed. Usually more like 17. It is a heavier vehicle than you would think and doesn't have the best aero. If I nurse my G8 I can get up to 27-28 for short periods of time. Around 20-22 MPG is more realistic and it weighs nearly 1000 lbs less than a Trailblazer with similar drivetrain.

I had a 2006 TBSS AWD and drove it from new to about 86,000 miles. All told, averaged about 14.4 miles to gallon.

We've had two 2WD TBSSs and both averaged about 16 mpg with some city and mostly hwy driving. Friends around here with AWD average around 14 MPG. Make sure you check with the groups you intend to autocross with before you buy. Chicago and Milwaukee region SCCA do not allow ANY SUVs to autocross.

Make sure you try and get 08-09 TBSS if you plan on driving aggressive with it. the 06 and some early 07 models would deploy the side air bags when trying to drift or you start to spin because the SDM thought the truck was going to roll over.

and as 66SuperSport said, check with your local club as they don't allow SUV's to run. The roll index is only listed for a base model Trailblazer and its 1 number too high to be legal to run but the TBSS come lowered from the factory so the roll index number is lower but the SCCA doesn't list it. They let me get away with it around here because they know I can drive.
