Hello all...I was looking at the preview for that new Cannonball documentary and thought of something. Has anyone made/installed a bigger than normal fuel tank for long range? I ask because with wider tires/tubs I can imagine the stock fuel tank gets even smaller. Maybe something along the lines of having the tank in the stock position but then have it extend into the trunk has been tried??

You could probably mount a fuel cell in the truck and have it gravity feed the stock tank, or use a tiny electric pump to do so. Would be pretty inexpensive, removable, and not have to cut up the trunk floor.

Just an option.

First, thanks for posting this. I had to go Google it to see what it was about and it takes me back to my childhood when I thought The Gumball Ralley was about the best coolest thing that I could ever do when I grew up. I still feel a little bit that way now as an adult and have to admit its still on my bucket list :wrc:

They mention the gas tank question in this promo trailer;

PS
It appears you can buy it from their Facebook page

From a practical standpoint the fuel load should equal the sum of your butt numbness + bladder volume.

Ha! Ill keep that calculation in mind. Then again Ive driven from Miami to NY/Boston non stop (with fluid input and output stops of course) several times so that would be a big ass tank without the bladder volume taken into account!

I also thought of a fuel cell on top of the trunk. that would be a neat solution as it can be kept empty when its not needed. Ive only seen big fuel cells though, Id like to keep some space in the trunk for the battery, jack, tools, etc. Maybe a cell that wasnt too tall would be ideal. Do companies like Ricks etc make custom tanks to mount inboard? Does anyone have any pics of one?

As for the movie...Ill certainly be getting one!
