Any new Photoshop projects?

Here's one I've been holding onto for a while.

that is cool, I have been wanting to see a nascar style torino gt or plymouth done as a street car.

those magnum 500s look awesome.

oddly enough, my latest project has wheels from the same company lol

it's not much, and the wheels still need a good bit of work (i did this on a computer with a much lower contrast and didnt realize all of the chop marks around the wheels were so visible) but it's got more effort into it than one may think.

edit: site didn't allow hotlinking.

Nice 'chop on the Torino. I really love that body style and I can't believe how many times I've passed on really decent versions over the years. I did a quicky Torino 'chop back in March:

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Well, with the new Kris Horton renderings in PHR this month, I got a bug in my bonnet to do one I'd been thinking about for a good long while now... a '72 Cougar to go with the '72 Torino. Whatch'all think?

That someone loves it!
And I'm glad too. I was too lazy to open the thread where you requested it to remind me who it was that actually requested it... please forgive. I freakin' loved your ideas about totally doing up the stock car image. I'm gonna see if I can do the matte/flat black numbering on the gloss black, and a proper stock car style aluminum sheet front air dam and rear spoiler combo.

BTW, I was thinking about the potential of this kind of project, and I had some naughty thoughts about using a good ol' Shelby all aluminum 427 backed by a toploader 4 speed backed by a GV overdrive unit. Of course, there'd have to be a quick-fill integrated into the driver's upper quarter and mid-ship mounted fuel cell. Nice 17" stock car style wheels in black, grey, or even chrome with the requisite white or yellow letter Goodyears. I'd even like to see a truck arm rear setup with a 9" nodular with huge finned drums (maybe off a commercial vehicle or something) out back. Front could go either way.... stock style with boxed arms with coilovers on top or go full on with a full tubular arm coilover conversion for the front. Heck maybe do a full front sub frame and full rear subframe. Sorta like back-halving and front halving the car simultaneously but keep the middle intact. Big front discs are a given, probably Wilwoods. For the interior, keep it clean and spartan but not uncomfortable, and it's gotta have at least a mild 6 point bar setup. And for sure it's gotta have proper stock car style fiberglass buckets, a/c, a decent head unit, etc.

Yeah, I'd drive the living crap outta that.

Will do... and sadly, until I get some real coin rolling in (doctoral student/teaching assistant pay pretty much sucks), all I can do is photochop stuff together. But even after I graduate, academic musicians often get paid less than doctoral student/TAs. :banghead: I guess I'll have to sell out and go back to doing studio work and whoring myself for commecial work... maybe a nice movie soundtrack. Yeah, right... :squint:

And here it is... this took a way too damn long since it was all details. Details always take the most time, but they're also what makes all the difference, right? It doesn't help that I'm working one eye'd since the damn glaucoma surgery (which is also causing some annoying double vision). Anyway, I think it came out pretty nice...

Your wish is my command Vanzuuk... I didn't know if you had a legit logo, so I just made a simple name, and since I was adding one logo, I thought it'd look killer with some flat/ghost versions of vintage logos too. Dig it???

I'll see what I can do about the hood now...

DAMN thats cool. Thats exactly what I was thinking about the various decals in black. Do my name big on the quarter and I will make a poster for my garage. I still love the job you did on my camaro. I got to get some sleep, now I am gonna wake up and run to the computer in the a.m.

where is Steve from phr?, he should check out your torino. It might be too gritty for the west coast guys. :)

Well, after this one, I'm not sure how much more I can do to this car... here's the flat black hood (which I can't quite get right because of the high amount of reflections in the original image). Oh, and Vanzuuk, you can make your poster with this one, but these images are pretty low res so you'll have to keep it small.

I liked the small numbers and I resized your name on the quarter... I think it looks a bit better. I like the race flavor, but I think I'd really ghost the numbers more to make it a bit more subtle, like so:

I was just looking at some vintage stock car pics of '70-'71 Torinos, and wondered why they didn't quite look as good as this photochop. Then I remembered the one mod I did that I think made the biggest difference: raising the rear wheel arch to match the front. This really changes the looke of the rear quarter, making it look more flared and racy. That would probably be the most difficult part of pulling this look off.

Anyway, for anyone who cars, here is a list the mods on this photochop:

* Raised rear wheel arch to match front.

* Shaved a bunch of stuff, including door handle, marker lights, rocker and quarter trim, wheel well moldings, and front license plate.

* Blacked out front windshield trim and verticle side window trim.

* Shaved lower side window trim.

* Smaller sideview mirror

* Dark tinted windows

* Front aluminum airdam, rear aluminum spoiler

* Side exit exhaust cut into rocker

* Quick fill gas cap on rear quarter

* Wheel/tire swap to upsized 17" stock car style wheels and Goodyears

* Ghosted flat black lettering, numbers, and logos.

* Flat black hood

Easy in Photoshop, but real life... $$$$ :hand:

Thanks for the ultimate in photochop compliments. now for the "whos and wheres"

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

wheels and tire lettering lifted from a real bush series car. (lots of color blending involved) Door handle and lock removed. grille blacked out. (headlamps from another original pasted over) lowering job. Removed chairs from behind car. extended rear spoiler to flow better. Put reverse "71 Cyclone Pro-touring" on the display sign. Removed antenna and door lock pulls from window. Blacked

out licence plate.

Boy, that's an awesome chop! I don't pretend to know how you guys do those, but I know most of the time you can tell something has been done.

TonyL
08-27-2005, 08:08 PM
wheels are the kicker. 9xs out of ten its the wheels that give a chop away. the key is to use Google's image search and find EXACTLY the same profile your donor car has.

mine was this car.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
once you have a convinceing set of wheels the rest falls into place. Stance. Simply cut around the bottom of the cars and the wheel wells and lower the body of the car over the wheels and tires. Sometimes you have to rotate the upper portion of the chop to get the right perportions.

Here's an example of the "cut lines"
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
cut lines are yellow. The rest is using "clone" to remove shadows and things that ruin the look you are after. (the chair behind the car, the logo in the upper right corner, the door handle, etc) and then you're done!

Tony, were you in on the conversation we had a few weeks back about the opels? the thread was actually about the GT, but i prefer the manta myself. the one i was talking about looked a lot like this one but the flairs were a little more squared off

http://www.galiciaenralis.com/OPEL/Manta%20A/slides/mant0078.html

this would be a badass little mini-touring car with a GN turbo v6 and a 5 speed.

DarkBuddha

Nice work Tony. You make it look easy. It's all so obvious now that you point it all out, including all the little leftover artifacts. But when you don't have the original for reference, it's really extra convincing. The one thing that kinda had me guessing one way or the other was the lack of shadow at the tops of the wheels/tires from the fender covering them. But then I thought that the show floor lighting could be playing games. Still, nice work.

I really had a tough time finding a decent wheels image at the right angle for my Torino 'chop. Easily over half of my initial time on one of these is simply image searches. Find the right cars with right angles and it all falls together. I apparently have pretty lousy luck because I always end up having to modify the shape and perspective on everything.

TonyL
08-28-2005, 12:44 AM
I Use Google ALOT. Image search works well, but the finesse is in using the right terms.

Nascar, Bush series, Nascar display, all yeilded different results, remember to use the "advanced" search and go for the larger image size. These pics were both in the 1024x728 or bigger catagory. then shrunk down after all the work was done.

Remember, when searching for the correct wheels, not to dismiss cars that are facing left when you need a right facing wheel. You can always mirror image the "wheel" car. and get what you need.

Damn true, someone posted a sick monza on here a few weeks ago, it was red and for sale on ebay.

The only thing that I noticed on tonys car was the front tire, other than that it was dead on.

I like my camaro but someday I may build something a little less common. When Steve Stropes cars came out I felt like he had "stolen" my ideas.Of course he didnt really steal them but you know what I mean.

Definitely better wheel/tire look, and I love some of the mods, like the blacked out grille, quarter window ducts, and the side exhaust mod. I tried the blacked out upper side window molding and decided I liked it better with. Same for the bumpers. I guess I just liked a bit of jewelry for highlights.

Photochopping is definitely addictive... too bad it doesn't pay better.

You're absolutely right0 and 3/4 views can be the toughest. I can usually do a pretty good job of countering the "lean" with certain image transformations (skew or perspective operations specifically), but this particular image had an extra problem/issue in that it already had a slight lean because the roadway the car sits on is actually banked and leans toward the driver's side. You can see it in this original image:

There really wasn't much I could do to fix this one.

I have no idea how this photo shop works, but seems like you guys are pro's! I'm just getting started on a new project, and have been all over the place trying to dig up some pictures for inspiration. The car is a 65 GTO that I had originally bought in 91, then sold to a guy in 94…19 years later to the day, the car came back to me in almost exactly the same condition as when I sold it.

Anyways, I am a big fan of Trans Am racing, and for this car would like to build a very streetable car with some homage payed to the series from back in the day. For wheels and tires I want to stay with 15's and wondered if there was any way to photo shop some mini kites, or torq thrusts with Good Year Blue streaks on to this car? Not too low and with a slight rake? Would really appreciate any efforts.
