Anyone use one of these? I seems to punch well but isn't the hole too small for a good spot weld?

I don't use one of those, although it looks interesting. I use a bench mounted hand-held sheet metal punch. I use 3/16th's and 1/4" holes for plug welding with good results either way.

Yeah, hole it's too small, you would have to drill holes out to get a good weld and their not adjustable. Get a Roper Whitney, they are adjustable to how deep into the panel you punch and they come with several different size punches. More expensive ($80ish) but well worth it.

I used a hand one to do mine, it was not too hard to squeeze and worked great. It has adjustable depth and different sizes. Put both of my full quarters on with that. I think it came from Eastwood

Something like this which is just a cheap knock-off of the Roper Whitney. Worked just fine for me

Yes I bought one. It's cheap enough and fast.
Yes the hole is too small, but you just hit it twice and does a fine job for plugs.
I did 2 quarters, 2 rockers , rear tulip, with it no problem.

I grind down/prime my welds anyway, you would never know I hit it twice.

We have one at school and the holes are too small. I use it and then use a step up bit to make it bigger
