I have joked with my wife that I was going to take this up. I think falcons are pretty amazing animals.

When I was about 14 I used to be friends with a local farmer who had a Falconry/Raptor rehab permit. Flying those birds after nursing them to health was one of the most gratifying things I've ever done. I thought about getting into it more deeply, but in NJ you must go through a 2 year apprenticeship, trap your own bird, build a mews (hawk house) for it & even after all that you still really got to pull some strings to be able to legally keep those birds, especially endangered species like Peregrines. Getting the falconry hunting permit is another requirement on top of all that. Here's a picture of me with an injured young Cooper's hawk I rescued a few years ago:

I grew up in Green Bay, WI and this subject REALLY interested me when I was younger. I guy in my high school used to use coffee cans to trap and catch Red Tailed Hawks (I'm sure illegal!!) and he'd bring them into school!! My best friends brother pursued this (every bit as restrictive as NJ) and got his hunting permit. Raptors has always fascinated me, so great post!!!

Red Tailed Hawks are a very resilient species here in the Chicago suburbs........a year ago on a trip down the interstate we were going out to dinner, I counted 14 Red Tailed Hawks sitting up on the light posts waiting to pounce on dinner!! They just adapt.

COOL pic too Tommy!!
