Hi there guys, wondering if soemone here can impart some advice as I have searched high and low but really haven't come up with a good solution.

I have a Dart 598 tall deck big block with all the fruit in a 68 Camaro but you guessed it, hood clearance issues. I need to to try and reduce intake height by about 1.5 inches if poss as I do not want to go 4" cowl hood (currently have a 2"). Currently have:
Holley Dominator 1050
Edelbrock Super Victor CNC tall deck 2918 (6.95" height)
RHS heads ported and benchflowed 800hp
Engine Flywheel Dyno 738hp @ 5800rpm
Engine Torque 766Ft lb @ 4300rpm

Considering going to a Holley 950 DP with drop base airfilter and a new intake, but which one?? I know I will sacrifice power but torque curve should be shifted over to compensate. A RPM airgap with spacer will only save me about 1/2" at the dizzy end so other option is a Torker ll which will save me about 2".
What is the max power a Torker can make as I have read very conflicting data on these (I may be able to fit a spacer between Torker and carb if lucky to increase plenum volume). I cannot drop the motor any lower due to headers so if you have been there and have some advice I would really appreciate it. Or is there another intake option?? At the end of the day if i loose 100HP but torque comes in earlier I can live with it.

Cheers Lads
Al

I have a Torker II on a 550 hp Pontiac. It did take some welding to raise the ports to match my head port so a possible issue for you. Some of the Pontiac guys are milling down the carb pad .750 on the tall Victor Intake and onbly loosing some. Might check the height on Weiand Team Gs or even a different 4150 Victor. My 500" Pontiac motor made 700 HP with an 850 on a Victor-dynoed with a Dominator and adapter and made a little less.

Holley 950 is actually an 850 base on a 750 venturi body. They use a higher pressure to rate the HP series than the old standard test pressure.. If you look at venturi size and throttle blade size you can compare the old series Holleys/Demons to the HP or Race Demon CFM.

Switching to a 4150 from a Dominator will pick you ups some clearance as they are shorter.

There was also a very low factory dual plane/4150 Holley they used on the Vette's due to hood clearance issues-why the L88 hood came about.

I would go to www.speedtalk.com those guys have the answers on big inch builds, I am currently looking at putting a 565 in my 70 chevelle and have found some good info there.

Ive seen one Camaro build that used an L88 hod insert instead of the traditional cowl induction insert and it looked very nice. You could hang your original hood in the garage and go with an L88 hood or raised cowl hood. A more expensive option would be to look at some of the multiport efi set-ups. You might be able to find one to fit under your current hood as they offer additional clearance. Your hp is maxing out at 5800. You may already be choking off the top end of the motor. I would think a tall deck 598 should be making more than 800hp.

Thanks guys, do you have any more info on the L88 hood and how much clearance there is?
Is anyone aware of issues with using big block std deck intakes with spacers and potential leaning out issues, I would have thought this wouldn't be a problem but a mate reckons it maybe?
Thanks for the heads up on speedtalk too!

EFI could be an option on the same height intake as the throttle bodies are way shorter than a carb.

Here's a link to an L-88 scoop-for a Camaro I like a cowl hood better. I do think some of the old (Baldwin Motion) Camaros years ago used them before a taller than factory cowl hood was made.

Cheers for that, I'll do some investigating as I really don't dig the 4" cowl but may not have another option if L88 clearance is not where I need it.
Is anybody aware of issues with running spacer plates on a normal intake causing leaning out issues?
Torker would definetly fix my issues.....

The old L-88 and ZL-1s made a fair amount of HP with the factory dual plane-maybe about as high as the RPM or a hair lower. I donlt theink the plain Performer would flow enough for you.
