I'm restoring a 71 Chevelle from the bottom up, and I need suggestions on what type of suspension I should use. I don't foresee myself entering the car in any competitions. I just want something that's going to bring the center of gravity down and make the car more fun to drive.
I've been looking at Hotchkis. What other options do I have as far as reliable suspensions go for my needs with budget in mind?

We have a TON of options for that car:
http://www.ridetech.com/store/musclecars/?subcats=Y&features_hash=V270.V328
A full coil over conversion kit, with the 1,000,001 mile warranty shocks, a-arms, spindles, etc runs $3100.
The spindles drop the car, thereby lowering CG and are "tall" so you get better camber gain for improved handling.
The arms have corrected ball joint angles for the lower stance and increased camber, and corrected caster so the car goes down the road with ease.
The coil springs are Hyperco, made in the USA, and one of the best you can get.
I don't think I need to say anymore about the shocks!

UMI, SC&C, RideTech, Global west, Detroit Speed, Heidts, Chassisworks, Speedtech.......
I see that every one has jumped in but I have to ask, what is the budget? that always helps with a starting point and maybe you only add a few KEY suspension parts to start with and add more along the way as budget allows, I started my car with just front and rear springs and front sway bar, and added as I could afford it, those three components are a good base to start with, and then some good adjustable shocks, ridetech HQ shocks are some of the best and only 15-20 bucks more than the QA1 shocks

Here is a install article that the folks at Chevy Hi Performance did on our Level 2 kit shown above:
http://www.chevyhiperformance.com/te...l/viewall.html
If you simply plan to cruise the car at first I would suggest starting with a Level 1 kit:
http://www.bmrsuspension.com/?page=products&productid=76
The Level 1 kit will lower your car; lowering the center of gravity in conjunction with larger diameter sway bars improves handling dramatically. The kit also includes the best gas shock available for typical street cruising.
The Level 1 kit is the core of our Level 2 kit so later down the road if you want more from the suspension you can add the necessary parts to make your own Level 2 kit!
I personally think this is the best way to build your car to insure that you are deciding what you need instead of just spending $$$ before making the call that you need more out of your car's suspension.

As has been said, there are lots of options for your particular application. You need to decide what you are looking for out of the suspension modifications and what your budget will allow. Feel free to give me a call if you have questions.

Yes I agree with this completely. Everyone will have a different brand preference and post links that say "buy this" or "you need this". The key is finding out what you expect from the car when you install these items and how much you want to invest into it. Maybe you want to do it is pieces. Some people want to get ice cream and Friday nights and that is all they will do with the car and some want to fit the autox track a few times a month.
If you get a chance please tell us what you would like to see from your car and how you want it to handle and we can supply some better info.
Good luck with your project!
Ryan
Bottom line call Marcus at SC&C discuss your goals he will tell you what to buy even if it isn't something he sells.
