My Dad is looking to purchase a 502 RamJet crate engine for his '71 Nova. Any opinions on the best source? I'm not just looking for the best price, but more importantly excellent customer service and information.
Thanks,
Dan

Dan, Keep in mind your local GM dealer. I know some don't want to mess with certain things, but I know I will do anything I can to get a sale (especially to beat these parts giants). At the dealership I work at, we have seen occasions where people have bought mail order stuff and have a warranty problem and the dealership will not help them out because of where the person bought the item. I would rather pay $100 more to have peace of mind. Drop me an e-mail -
[email protected] - and I'll give you an idea of costs on what you are looking at. Mark

Dan you might try Sallee Chevrolet They have a forum with a Ramjet specifc section and have sold a few Ramjet motors and offer dyno breakin etc. http://www.sallee-chevrolet.com/Discus/messages/3418/4500.html?1123731619
I have a Ramjet 502 in my Nova but bought it from a guy who never installed it. It has the new Mefi4 system but I have bought a FAST Xfi to try to improve it and for future power adders. There is a few quirks in the factory 502 system and not a lot of help from GM. At SEMA it talked to engineers and the admitted the isc motor is too slow and the seem to hunt for idle but they are working on that. They are very sensitive to fuel and susceptible to vapor lock you need to use an in tank pump to avoid fuel problems.

Thanks for the great info Mark and John. I'll pass this along to my Dad. He was interested in the FI for mileage and driveability, but since he knows little about this technology, he may be better off with a carb'd engine (which he knows how to tune).

Got mine from Jegs since I didn't have to pay sales tax (at time of sale anyway :) ). That plus a little higher starting price kept me away from buying it from a local dealer. Oh yeah - plus the dealer doesn't deliver to your door... I also recommend the Sallee Chevrolet forum, and if you want to pay a little more the break-in service sounds interesting. They seem genuinely interested in customer service there. My stock RamJet wiring harness had one connector that was defective, and Sallee would probably have caught/fixed that before you had to deal with it.
