my local tool supply finally has cleco fasteners on sale for a reasonable price.
what is the most common size to use?
I'm assuming smaller is better since it creates an easier hole to fill?

1/8 is good.. cheap drill bits in that size. 3/16 will be fine too, and the bigger drill bits tend to break less.

If they are cheap get a couple bags of each. I use both 1/8 and 3/16. It really depends on what I am doing, although the 1/8 get more use. If there is a lot of "adjusting" going on and the hole gets oversized I have also used washers on the bottom to retain the Cleco.
