Been working on this one for a long time on and off but it is now a running and driving car

It's got a supercharged 350 w/ Trick Flow twisted wdge heads, ZZ409 cam, McFarland Short Ram Prototype intake (only 6 known to have been made, 4 are accounted for) running on 60lbs injectors with a custom ECM tune for a HPX cartridge MAF. Full Crane/MSD boost controllable ignition retard (in case of bad fuel), water to air intercooler...etc..etc. All done by me. I only farm out painting.
Supercharger drive & accessory drive are home built, puzzled together from CV Products pulleys & homebrew stuff. It's a lot sturdier than the stock procharger stuff.

All susp. has been rebuilt & upgraded with moog conponents Everything is powdercoated on it. All fasteners zinc plated.
Full stainless exhaust 2x 2.75" custom mufflers & boom tube
Fays 2 watts linkage in the rear
Baer Track+ brakes
4th Gen Pleather seats
Hawks 5" rear spoiler
Jongbloed magnesium aero racing wheels
Koni yellows & eibach sport lines all round
J&M caster/camber plates
home built SFCs

Most of the wiring is custom made by me, I used OEM GM relays and fuse holders everywhere so it all looks "sort of" factory.

and so on and so on.

It's an automatic, I do have a brand new retrofit T56 for it but this is a heavily beefed up 7000R4 and it shifts super firm and is very reliable so Ill probably chuck the manual in the gray 88 iroc I have since I drive that one a lot more than any of my other fun cars.

and it all fits under the stock hood without hacking and drilling additional bolt holes. It all uses stock holes apart from 1 little can on the pass side

it is actually running now. Still needs a ton more fuel @ WOT (with 60lbs inj) so I had to let off the throttle quickly since the AFR went way above 14 and it needs to be around 12 WOT Don't want to fug up all my hard work

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VYfWQ5iLHk

In the mean time I have been installing a roof mounted panasonic cockpit radio and doing some final work on getting the spoiler neat and clean and even all round. Also repaired and cleaned up the GFX

roof radio completely gone through, repaired and the accompanying amp has upgraded stuff inside also.

I had a 91 IROC 1LE with Manual windows & locks this is making me want one again.

It wasn't a red 5.0 one was it? My buddy has a red 91 1LE that has manual most anything. Very clean car (has a 383 P1SC in it)

There's not a lot of love for early 80s cars but I grew up with them (well...as far as one can grow up with those kind of cars half way across the globe) so I have a soft spot for them.

Nope it was black with black interior and I sure did have a lot of fun in the car.

Been years since I worked on this car. Too many projects going on at the same time and spine surgery kept me from making any progress but I'm back at it :) 1st thing on the list was redoing the wheels. I decided to paint them black and redo the centers. This is the end result:

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2015/06/8020150522_121726_b3f59d02394239f85b2394-1.jpg

Imo they came out pretty good being old racing wheels

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2015/06/8020150522_123216_64d9584697b8b4e305d245-1.jpg

I'll mount them in the next couple of weeks most likely. I have them all done, tires mounted.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2015/06/20150618_162424-1.jpg

Got a fender roller to maybe ease in flaring out this thing, It's going to take wheet metal work for sure to fit these. I may even have to cut away lower parts of the front fenders to clear the steering angle.

Awesome. Can't wait to see the wheels on the car.

We need more thirdgen projects. DSE had one, but they just crashed it.

well, took some time (still too many projects going on at the same time) but they're on. Will need to rework the rear fenders, flare them out. Also, skirts/GFX need to go back on and I will add some black and gold details like a billet gold gas cap, black and gold striping like OEM and gold IROC script on the doors. I may paint the rear of the spoiler black also, I will paint the top of the rea bumper and the area behind the lamps black since it's real ugly that you see red steel in between the creases.

QUOTE "Got a fender roller to maybe ease in flaring out this thing, It's going to take wheet metal work for sure to fit these. I may even have to cut away lower parts of the front fenders to clear the steering angle."

Instead of cutting the the lower part of the front fender just pull the lower front out even with the edge of the tire and make a longer strut brace from frame to fender. This won't change the look of the car in the side view and IMHO looks even better in front view.

My son's 84 with a tall 275-60R15 on 15x8 w/4" bs.

Getting the edge of the fender out near the edge of the tire fixes the interference on turn in.

Twin_Turbo
06-03-2016, 03:24 PM
I have no turn in interference and I like the fender tucking inboard, if need be I'll cut away whatever interferes

had an idea, eyeballing the front fenders look to be the same shape as the rears. I figured, why not cut some fenders and try to graft those arches on the rear. Here's a quicky mockup. So far so good.

The flare will need to come up higher, just like the original arch.

Glad to hear your back is back up to par and you can get back to work. :)

Awesome project! We're all around the same age here at Speedtech and remember seeing these cars hit the streets. We all loved them back then and deep inside still do. We recently bought a 91 RS so we can start developing bolt on suspension, an ExtReme suspension new front clip that will eliminate the struts, an upgrade to our torque arm and an LS swap kit!

Yours is headed in a cool direction too, that's going to be a serious bruiser. Looking forward to seeing more!

I can't see how this is possible as a bolt in, but I'm totally excited to see what you come up with. Glad to see some more big names jumping in the 3rd gen handling game.

Ben@SpeedTech

I don't want to steal the thread away from TT's cool project, so in a brief nut shell yes this is already a decent platform, which is why we want to develop a strictly bolt in upgrade kit. Tubular front lowers, sway bars, better struts, rear Articulink arms, better torque arm, etc.

Developing an LS/T56 swap kit is a no brainer.

Then there's the guy who wants to win Optima with a 3rd gen, which is why we plan to also develop an ExtReme system, based on the same suspension clip that is used in our ExtReme 1st and 2nd gen Camaro and C10 suspension. If you aren't familiar with it yet, we've got the most advanced geometry on the market in this suspension and it's whole purpose really is to have a genuine street driver that competes with the race cars in street disguise at events. It's also designed to tuck a 315 tire under the front with 30+ deg of steering angle for the Mary Pozzi wide front tire seal of approval. ;) Not sure there's a way to pull that off with struts, but either way the ExtReme geometry alone will make it so much better than factory. Having a full service hot rod shop on sight, we're not too timid about modifying things to work, so putting an Extreme suspension will mean cutting the car a bit, but we will make it as easy as possible of an install, just as we typically try to do with any of our products.

At this point production on the C10, 1st & 2nd gen Camaro and Nova ExtReme suspension is in full production, and 68-72 Chevelles has just become available. 64-67 Chevelle development has begun, then we'll do 55-57 Chevy and then the 3rd Gen Camaro. Checking off our list of must have parameters in geometry, packaging, and performance takes a bit of time, but we should see something hopefully as soon as next spring for the 3rd gens.

To prevent hijacking this build thread any further I've started a Speedtech thread we can chat more about the suspension on, click here (https://www.pro-touring.com/threads/121108-Speedtech-s-new-3rd-Gen-Camaro-suspension).

I dig the Jongbloeds
Which TFS heads do you have? I'm thinking either the 175's or AFR 180's on mine. I'm not looking for anything too big since I'll be spinning the engine mostly below peak torque.

Here's the underside of the hood. Paint came off with just paint thinner, same for the wheel well coating overspray that was there from the factory. Entire hood will get a repain but with the nice e coat there I figured why sand it down. Just give it a light key and be done with it

Bumper and fenders done. These were the last to be painted. Fenders have stone chip coating on the inside and red paint over it. I specifically wanted the fenders painted inside. The ugly crest/logo and the indentation for it has been deleted from the nose mask

TT your rear flares and entire car has turned out great!!!! I really like how your flares look stock. Did you make those by overlaying a front flare as you suggested earlier in your posts and if so did you have to add a filler piece between flare and body. Also how much wider are they than stock or how much width did you gain. Thanks for sharing your build with us. Very inspiring.

I got the doors and such all together, no rattles, the power locks work flawlessly now.
Door panels and interior a little dirty from dust and swirl marks from a quick wipe

I need some covers to plug the window crank holes. I can not seem to find any. My buddy has some on his 82 trans am (with a bird) ...if only I could find some for a camaro

The soffseal weatherstrip is damn near perfect, it took a little effort to get it just right but the door closes super easy...no effort at all.

Got a rear glass with no scratches or gouges and most importantly,... no rear defogger. I hate how they never work and the copper lines are always delaminated. Also, this way my auto dimmer mirror should work a little better

I have a gold black decal kit...complete. I will use the gold iric z door decals. I also have nos 5.7 tuned port injection decals however I will probably use my custom decals. What should I do with the stripes. The clean look is really growing on me... I'm reluctant to put on the stripes

Here are some of the decals I made. Will not use all of them. 1 mpe camaro will go on the rear wing and the 5.7 short ram on the rockers

Those graphics look similar to the third gen Macho TA (MSE logo). I don't know if you planned that or not but I like it.

Twin_Turbo

Yes, the MSE graphics did provide some inspiration. I didn't want to blatantly rip them off, I have some original MSE decals and badges for an 82 TA (I tried to buy a mecham TA twice, one both times the US sellers didn't want to sell to me for some reason) The trans am logos obiously are for my 82 trans am, which will be a modern performance pro touring car, not an 80s throwback like this one. I purposely kept this car 80s styled as much as I could. Therefore it still has the TPI stuff albeit heavily modified (and using a unique one of 3 or 4 McFarland short ram intakes, I think I'm the only one actually running it instead of having it sit as a trophy), 7 wheels and 80s J55 brakes etc. 80s muscle with a little less mullet :D

I was looking for a pic of the logo to post and noticed they are finally reproducing the 82 MSE TA spoiler. I tried to buy one in the 90's but they said they didn't have the molds. Must have finally been enough interest in it to make them.

You may want to order one while you can- I think I am going to get one just in case. The original spoiler on our TTA is looking bad but not sure I want to deviate from stock.

That spoiler is why I bought my 87 Saleen- love it.

I may be buying a mecham spoiler. They have been available for a couple of years but with shipping and taxes and all I'm looking at a 1000 bones easily

The fuel cap and flange is from joes racing
