Hey guys,
I'm looking for some help in putting together my wheel package for my 67 GTO. I have an SC&C stage II set up front. Currie uppers and Spohn lowers in the rear. Stock 10 bolt rearend. I like the BOZE Forged STINGER Wheels. I want 18X8's (5" BS) in the front and 18X9's (5.5" BS) in the rear. My research has led me to believe that these wheels will fit without rubbing or limiting the front turning radius. My question is what tire sizes front and rear will be best. I plan on touring this car along the pacific coast this summer and I would like the ride to be firm but comfortable. My initial thoughts would be 245/45/18 fronts and 275/45/18 rear. All input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,70799708017080370804

P.S. I have attached a few pics of my ride. The "roller" wheels I have on it don't fit! They are BOSS 138's in gunmetal. They look pretty cool but the stock 138's 18X8 (4.5" BS) fronts rub my wheel well lip...although I have not set the desired camber yet. Front tires are 235/40/18. The rear 18X9.5 (5"BS) rub and are virtually flush with the whell well lip. Tires are 245/40/18. The 18X9.5 would fit with a 6" BS according to my measurements.

I run 20's on the rear of my 67 Chevelle and 18's up front. I can get you the sizes tomorrow when I get a chance to look at it.

mmag,
What did you figure out with your wheel sizing? Would like to see a few more pics if you have any.

Go with a 10 in the rear. It will look much sweeter!

I never thought my wheel choice would consume so much of my time. I am going INSANE! Here is what I'm thinking now...AE Custom Rally I Pontiac wheels. 18X8 5"BS front, 18X9 5.5" BS rear. I thought an more traditional look would look good. I would prefer Pontiac Rally II wheels but cant find anyone who makes that wheel with a custom BS. I am also considering 17" wheels with more tire for a bit more ride comfort. I plan on touring this car through the western states this summer. That being said, any thoughts on making all 4 wheels the same width for practical reasons. I have been reading on this forum about "square" wheel set ups for more neutral handling which is another reason I'm considering a non staggered set up. All thoughts and opinions are appreciated. I have attached some pics of the wheels I am considering.

Can't say that I've seen a Rally I like that before. That has alot less backset than what you are looking for so it might not look nearly as cool as the one in the picture. My thoughts are that they are a little too plain for such a large wheel.
I like the one in the top photo.
Good luck. Make sure to post some pics when you get it figured out.

My 66 GTO has 18X8 in the front and 18X9 in the rear and I have a BOP rear end in my car. I measured this thing 50 million times and Jon at Driverz Inc came up with 5" back space in the front and 5 7/8" back space in the rear. I can honestly say that it would be very, very, very tight to get a 10" wheel in a stock wheel well of a 66 GTO. I think you could do it, but there are so many variables that it just isn't worth it IMO. I would assume the 67 would be the same problem. My 9" rear wheel fit very well and look good on the car. I would have liked another 1" of dish, but I was not wanting to cut my tubs or sacrifice hitting something.
I have 245-40R18 on the front and 275-40R18 on the rear

Can you post some pics? Does the sidewall of your 275 tire buldge over the rim which is why you needed the extra 3/8" of backspace?

Nice looking car mmag. If I were you I would sell those wheels on craigslist and go buy the same set with the proper backspacing and some wider rubber. The gray on gray looks sweet.

This thread has given me a wealth of info. Im also going crazy on trying to find the right measurements for my 68 lemans. These sizes all of you mention, do these wheels have offset? Thanks in advance.

Make sure you are not doing the same thing as the OP. A 68 is a whole different animal than a 67.
To the OP. Its not exactly the same but on my old 66 Cutlass I was able to fit a 18 x 10 rear and 18 x 9 front with 285-40 and 255-40 tires. It was tight but it fit and looked killer. My personal opinion is not do the Chevy style rally wheel on the GTO. Just does not look right for that car.

I know, ive been looking through this forum to see if i can get an idea of how 18s all around would look on my 68...So far it seems like the front looks nice, but the rear looks small on the A body. 18s front and 19s in rear would look better but hard to find unless you have the cash for that. Any suggestions? I have the 18/20 or 20s all around options but not really too sure on this....

mmag,
Since your 9.5" wheels rub and are flush with the wheel lip, I am thinking of ordering a set of 18X8 with 4.5" backset for my front and back. This would move the outer edge in 1" from where the 9.5" wide wheel with 5.5" backset sits. I could then mount a wider tire, maybe 255 and let it buldge. If it's going to buldge, maybe a 17" would look better. Any thoughts?
Sorry for all the questions....
Is the rub with the 9.5" something that could be solved wtih a little trimming, or is it pretty bad?
If you were to run a 275 on the back with your 9.5 rim would it make things worse for you?
How much space do you have on the inside? Riddler makes the same wheel with a 5.5" backset instead of the 5" backset so would moving it in .5" solve the problem even with a 275 tire?
Thanks for the help, man. I need to get this done and move on.

gotyorgoat,
I ended up ordering the Billet Specialties Mag G wheel. Front 18X8 5"bs. Rear 18X9 5.5"bs. Front tires are 245/40/18, rear 255/45/18. After MUCH research, measuring and test fitting I determined that with a stock 66/67 rear wheel well, the 18X9 rear is the way to go. The 18X9 allows me to stuff a 275/40/18 into the wheel well if I so choose. The reason I went with the 255/45/18 in the rear was because the NITTO MOTIVO tires I want to run are not offered in a 275 width. I could have run NITTO 555's but chose the MOTIVO tire because this car will be touring the Pacific coast roads and I wanted more tread life and comfort/quiet. My wheels should be on the car in a few days. I will follow up with detailed photos. I contemplated back spacing my rear wheels 5.75" because of the flexibility of using spacers to push the wheel out if needed but decided to go with 5.5" bs. I know it works for my set up. Also, I tried really hard to fit a 18x9.5 with 275 tire and could not...but again my wheel well is stock. I did trim and roll the stainless but I simply did not want to take a chance. the difference between 9" & 9.5" is minimal to me. More to follow. Wheel/tire package due to arrive 4/23/13 from Tennessee.
Cheers!

Wow. That is one mean looking ride. Nice choice and thanks for all of the info. I wish that I could find a wheel like that without needing to order a custom backspace.

What modifications did you have to do to fit the 10's ? thanks any help would be appreciated
