I came across this welder today. It is used. This will be my first welder and attempted at welding. What do I look for to make sure it has not been abused or to keep from getting ripped off?

You need to post the price in order for any of us to give you the advice on getting ripped off.

Although I did lots of welding a few decades ago I was really out of practice so when I started doing my own welding on my car I needed to brush up. You may want to have a look on-line at some information to get familiar with what you need to know and also look at some of the videos on YouTube on how to weld. It really helped me get ready before I started. Good luck and pick up some scrap to practice with.

Price is $425. And I have started looking at Welding tips on you tube. I also found a site that I can order some DVDs on welding. Thanks for the tips.

Get yourself a good volt/ohm meter and check the volts inbetween the gun and the ground and make sure they are pretty close to the chosen voltage. Not all welders are a spot on to the voltage, espically old ones. Also make sure that the wire feeds properly, so inspect the wire rollers, the gun, the casing. if you can have th eperson run a bead for you. weldingtipsandtricks.com (also on youtube) is a great source for welding information.
