My buddy Chris just texted me and said sizes and pricing are available on the new tires. The standard 18" pro touring sizes are there and pricing isn't too bad. Check out how little void there is and how big the tread blocks are.

Nice selection and tread pattern.
It looks like we will have to wait until Summer for some of the sizes though.

Good looking tire! I'm glad BFG is stepping up their game. They do a lot to support the events.

It appears to be 200 TW. Posts I've gotten from BFG's FB indicated 200 TW.

Looks like a fantastic tire. Too bad they don't make any sizes I can use and it looks like 17" wheels are dead forever. Surely they could slap one in the 335/35/17 Michelin PS2 mold. If it's such a great tire I might even be willing to pay the ridiculous Michelin premium.

From the BFG website. 200 tread wear it is. I am happy to see them comparing to tires like the AD08, RS3, and the star spec.
BFGOODRICH® INTRODUCES G-FORCE™ RIVAL™
GREENVILLE, S.C.
BFGoodrich® today unveiled a new extreme performance tire called the g-Force™ Rival™. The tire will help BFGoodrich target a growing market of drivers seeking extreme performance tires which are versatile enough to be used in auto-cross and track- day events then driven home. The tires have a 200 UTQG Rating (Uniform Tire Quality Grade) which allows them to be used in racing where drivers must compete on 140+ UTQG tires.
“The g-Force Rival helps BFGoodrich fill a growing need in the extreme performance market,” said Andrew Koury, BFGoodrich brand manager. “From autocross to road course events, on street or the track, we want drivers to own it.”
The Rival complements a successful BFGoodrich launch of the g-Force™ Sport Comp-2™ ultra- high performance street tire which was introduced in February 2012. Unlike the mostly street driven g-Force Sport COMP-2, the g-Force Rival was designed for track level abuse while providing drivability on the street. The g-Force Rival is predictable, allowing drivers to turn faster lap times1, and turn heads on the street. Highlight features include:
•
Razor-sharp reflexes - The Performance Racing Core™ (PRC) with a reinforced internal structure reduces sidewall flex for instant steering response.
•
Designed to stick - Asymmetric tread with large, solid tread blocks on the outside shoulder to optimize cornering grip.
•
Raise the limit - Extreme Tread Edge™ (ETE) design brings tread compound farther down the shoulder for increased grip in hard cornering and predictable feedback.
•
Consistent grip lap after lap — Silica-infused competition compound delivers better grip from start to finish.1
•
Street legal with a UTQG treadwear rating of 200 so you can drive to the track and back.
The Rival will initially launch with 15 sizes with rim dimensions from 15-20 inches and 205-335 section width. The product will be available through TireRack.com with pre-orders beginning on February 1.
1 Based on internal testing vs. Hankook® Ventus R-S3TM, Yokohama® ADVAN NeovaTM AD08TM, Dunlop® Direzza® Sport Z1 Star Spec, Toyo Tires® Proxes® R1RTM. Exceeding the safe, legal speed limit is neither recommended nor endorsed.

I'm right there with you, Rod. I wanted something more competitive than G-Force Sports that was still in the BFG family (for contingency purposes), but that lack of a 275 tire in 17" is not awesome.

I feel they definitely missed it on no 275/40-17. In my case BFG has practically forced me to do business with a competitor because they don't make 275's and 315's in 17" diameter that competes and I REALLY wanted to buy BFG if for nothing else than to say thanks for the surprise contingency check in 2012. Hopefully Rival will do well enough that they'll expand the line in the future!

275-40-17 would be a hugely popular size as it was OEM for a lot of GM cars and will fit a lot of others. Most of the sizes look to be BMW or 5th gen Camaro to me.

They currently aren't offering the sizes I need (255/35/18 & 295/35/18), so sticking with the KDW's for now. The BFG tire guy I do business with he couldn't find any time frame on my sizes, so would probably be a while. :-(

Seriously?
Actually, yeah. At first glance I thought, "not too bad" and then your post made me think a little harder, so I did some digging.
Using the pro-touring standard of 275/35-18 and 335/30-18 with a few noted exceptions here is what I came up with.
Prices lifted from TireRack or Discount Tire.
PS2 $1,752
Eagle F1 G2 $1,703 *(19" rear)
Super Sport $1,578 *(19" rear)
RT-615K $1,468 *(315 rear)
Rival $1,276
NT-05 $1,236 *(19" rear)
R888 $1,204 *(100 Treadwear)
KDW $1,142
Couple that with the fact that BFG is comparing this tire to real autocross tires wearing TW numbers under 200 and I am pretty excited. I do wish they had more sizes. The 275-17 seems like a no brainer. Me personally I would love to see 19s from 265 up through 345 and I think the ZO6 guys would too. I also think if BFG intends to push this to the ST crowd that run SCCA a 265-18would be good for the STX guys.

Good info Donny. Thanks for the putting up those numbers.
NT05 does not come in 335/30/18 tho... it's 335/30/19 per their website.
All those prices make the R888 look pretty good (rules notwithstanding).

I started running the Michelin SuperSport last year on my Z06! that tire is fricken amazing..hands down the best all round tire I have ever run! (and i have run alot of tires as my dad was the BFG rep for 30years who had access to all brands)

Just goes to show it is too bad the pro-touring oriented events decided to go with the arbitrary 200 UTQG instead of the SCCA 140 UTQG (also arguably arbitrary considering the tire wars that lead to huge distortions in the specs). The SCCA is larger and creates a better more competitive market. For instance I can get a set of 275/35/18 and 315/30/18 180 UTQG Kumhos for $1,150 shipped (I bought my 315/335/35/17 Kumhos for $1,000 shipped also). My Kumhos were worlds better than any KDWs I ever ran and miles better than my PS2s and NT05s.

I was ready to lay down the cash today for the Rivals thru TireRack today(295/35/18 $301 & 335/30/18 $351), but then I saw April 2013..WTF...Guess I will be using my old slippery Mich's for RTTC. After that I will go back to my Toyo's since I already have new fronts sitting in the garage.
Why doesn't RTTC just split tire classes? I am very limited with the tire I can run. A whole 2 choices Mich 220TW & BFG 300TW to meet rules. Not buying a new set of Mich's for $2K.

They have my sizes but... I wont need tires for another year. LOL I hope they come out with more sizes for the guys that need them. I really like BFG tires and always have. I dont see why they wouldnt have all the sizes ready and sizes for all popular applications

At least they have a 315/30/18. I'm surprised how many ties aren't available in that size considering how popular it is

Well..since the Rivals won't be available to me for RTTC, I'm going to pull off and throw away my terrible 10yr old Mich pilot sports and run my new Toyo R888's instead. (somebody want the Mich's for free? Come get em) I tried to use for the 200tw rule, but they just don't bite for me. Just too damn old. I will definitely buy the Rivals later for street and next years RTTC. I hope I don't see Rivals at this event with someone that has a connection..that would be messed up.

Since this thread came up I started to really look into rim and tire sizes since im market for them, and Im really surprised at the lack of 17" tires, for those who are still buying larger size 17s where are you getting them from? I looked on tire rack and didnt come up with many in the 275+ width with a 200 tread wear, and the only company I found that still had lots of choices are the Kuhmo's but their tread wear is 180.So whats a guy to do? I dont want to jump up to 18s if I dont have to.

Easily the most comprehensive review of the Rival to date. http://www.vorshlag.com/forums/showthread.php?p=57544&mode=linear#post57544
Here is my favorite excerpt.....
From my live Facebook review, "So the 3rd test was on the 2.7mi road course. Great course and the FR500S Mustangs were a hoot, even on 245s. Rival *crushed* the Falken in the back to back drives. Not even close. This is my new choice for Optima series tires, OLOA, or Goodguys autocrossing." Yep, no contest. This will become THE tire for Optima/Goodguys/ASCS events and possibly even on many One Lap of America cars and Chump/LeMons cars. We still don't know the wet characteristics, which the OLOA drivers will want to explore, but for dry running on track with a 200 UTQG minimum, this tire killed it.
