This is my work in progress, I started out with a super clean 67 cutlass convertible, the more I take this car apart the happier I am...
467Olds Rocket/4 speed
lowered with 2" drop spindles and detroit lowering spring
quick ration steering box
4 wheel disc brakes
18" 9.5" 5.50 BS Centerline Boulevards with 295/45-18 Nitto 555 Rear
18' 8" 4.50 BS Centerline Boulevards with 245/45-18 Nitto 555 Front

The best part about this build is that I am lucky enough to enjoy this with my son, 3 Years ago when I pulled the body and restored the whole chassis and drive train, he was only 11. Now that we are disassembling the car again for paint and body work, he is 14 and we are having a lot of fun. I will update with progress photos as the car is going in the body shop in a couple of weeks.

Thank you...Ben Hermance did the rendering. www.hermance design.com, he was really good to work with.

Pro-touring.com was very helpful to me in my wheel and tire combo... I can't wait to see those 295/45-18's stuffed up in the back fender wells....

I did not make the rendering...I wish I was that artistic, if you look on line there are many places that teach concept design..

Car looks great so far! My dad is just about finished restoring his '67 442 'vert and it is a similar color to your light blue. I've often wondered what it would look like with a dark blue 2-tone, and judging by that rending it would look great. Looking forward to seeing more pics as it comes together.

I got the Nitto's and figured I would see how the 295/45-18's would look in the back. The wheels are still a couple of weeks out. They look great and if the 5.5 back spacing works out then they should fit like a glove.
The 245/45-18's should work good.

Looks like Gerardo at Northpoint is doing your ride......couldn't have picked a better guy as far as quality! Tell him Erik Turner from Spies Hecker says hi, and I hope to stop in soon! You won't be dissapointed in the finished product!:worship:

You are 100% correct! Gerardo and Rob at Northpoint are on the job. They did my friends 62 Vette and my F150 KingRanch/limited that blew people away anywhere I drove it. http://northpointrestoration.com/

So here are a couple of quick shots of the door handles after welding them in.... The Handles came from http://www.kindigit.com/
The handles are pricey and alot of work but the end results are worth it.

I plan on getting some kindig handles when I get further along in my build. Those look good in your door. What you plan on using to unlock the doors since you shaved the key locks?

I am going with a Modo door and trunk lock kit, and a keyless push button start system.

Nice car and very nice build. Very cool that you're doing it with your son, keep the hobby going. How do you like the quick ratio steering box? Is it a 12.7 to 1? I only ask because i heard/read/misheard (?) that they could be twitchy at speed. I'm not sure if it is a variable ratio or not. I just picked up a pretty rough 67 Cutlass Supreme Turnpike Cruiser so it should be similar. What keyless push button start system are you using? Sorry so many questions. I like your build and will be watching close.

JTz442
03-20-2013, 01:55 PM
Not sure of the ratio on the box, its 2 3/4 turn lock to lock. I bought it from OPGI. I have been driving it around proior to this for about 2 years with no complaints, I dont race the car but I do drive on the some windy roads and have it handles very nice. the car being lowered and with stiff shocks and low profiles halps alot. I am changing from KYB to a set of Hotchkiss HPS1000 shocks and going with an 295-45/18 rear 245-45/18 in the front so it should ride alot different when I am done. I am using a push button start with proximity sensors from www.digitalguarddawg.com Good luck on your Turnpike Cruiser Build....

I was just looking at your olds... That is a nice car. I love the color combo

JTz442
04-12-2013, 07:13 AM
The colors have been choosen! I am going with two diffent Bentley Blues that compliment each other well, the top will be Dark Saphire Blue and the sides will be Silverlake Blue.

JTz442
04-12-2013, 07:31 AM
The doors are off and out for media blasting, the original floor pans are rock solid, they have been blasted, cleaned, sealed and awaiting DynoMat. All of the electronics are in:
American Autowire Harness
Power windows
Power Locks
Push Button start
Power Trunk
Remote Wiper Motor
I will update more as I plan on spending the day mocking up the harness and accessories

To say things have been hectic is to say the least... But anyhow here is an update.
The body was pulled to finish smoothing out the firewall and I decided to color match the undercarriage. So it's going on the rotisserie. The chassis is home so I could give it a little more attention to detail. We washed off all the shop dust and it looks good... But we can make look a little better. Everything is going to get polished and I am going to pull the motor to paint it again. We are getting over the hump and should be in color soon... I will try and keep the updates coming sooner.8683186832868308683386834

I am leaning towards the 1966 olds 442 interior that I will customize... I want to keep a stock look with just enough custom touches to keep people guessing... That's been my theme for the whole project.

You guys may have seen my 64 F-85 Club Coupe build and I am trying to keep the base interior as much as possible but with the power and the turning and stopping ability I wonder if the stock seat is going to keep me in place??? Just a thought.

Life has been keeping me busy so my apologies for the lack of updates. Eric Turner from Spies Hecker stopped by Northpoint. The SilverLake Blue and Dark Saphire Blue look amazing together. It was an Honor to watch the masters at work.93184931839318593186931879318893189

Great build, definitely looking forward to seeing it done. There's just something about a blue 67 Olds. My dad had one the same color when I was younger, a 67 Cutlass Supreme convertible with Cragars. I loved that car, and hope to do one myself in the future.

Love the 67 Oldsmobile . My Dad was the president of the 442 club here locally when I was in High School and over the years we owned a 67 Cutlass convertible , 67 Cutlass and 2 67 442's . The last 67 my Brother in law still has .

JT, Awesome build.. Quick question for you. How did you end up hooking up the Kindigit handles to your latches, etc? I installed them on my 69 Vert and came up with a way that i think will work pretty good, but was curious what others are doing?

Thanks,

126506sorry for disappearing off the face of the earth, but life has a funny way of doing that. The car is finished and we debuted it last year at the 2015 Detroit Autorama. the car was a Ridler Contender and won first place custom convertible. Since then I have had a blast with the car it also have a bunch of top 10 awards, Goodguys "Builders Choice" award, 2016 Axlata paint Calendar, S20E19 of My Classic Car with Dennis Gage, 4 page spread in the March Madness issue of the OCA magazine, upcoming feature in Car Craft Magazine and featured in "JoyRides". here are some pictures... enjoy126496126504126503126502126501126500126499126 498126497126495126505
