View Full Version : Engine Braking?...or just the right Converter?

We get calls all day long by people thinking that they want engine braking when what they really need is engine to transmission coupling. A sloppy or improperly chosen torque converter along poor lock up clutch implementation will lead to RPM drop off and an absolutely miserable driving experience. That horrible free wheeling usually prompts people to ask for engine braking. While there is a simple modification that can be applied to 4L60E transmissions, the results will be undesireable if your engine and transmission are not coupled with the right converter. So we dug up an old video shot by our friends at V8TVshow.com that talks about our MuscleDrive™ torque converters. This particular video features a 700R4. You can expect even better results with an electronic transmission because we can use the computer calibration to apply an oversized lock up clutch against a billet front cover across a wider range of driving scenarios. Not only will you hear customer Tommy Parker rave about our product, but if you listen, you can actually HEAR the engine and transmission working together. It doesn't sound like it's lugging. It doesn't sound like it's slipping. It doesn't sound like he accidentally kicked it into neutral. I totally understand why you might ask for engine braking but it's reasonable to see the value of a properly coupled engine and transmission. It's the converter.
