Has anyone installed a Speartech LS conversion harness in a 69 Camaro? I have the LS3 in the stock location (relative) with S&P plates, a stock tunnel with a T56 Magnum and a DSE heater box delete? Where did you make the firewall penetration for the grommet and what size hole? Pictures if available. I don't want to screw this up since the motor is in and the firewall is painted.

Even though I used a harness from PSI, the location worked well and most people I have seen use this same location...

Thanks. My harness seems to favor the passenger side from its layout. Any thoughts if I would move it to that side of the tunnel? What size hole did you drill?
Jason
It should come with a grommet for the hole, which will dictate the size- should be about 1 1/2"-1 5/8".

My PSI harness called for a 2" hole, but Speartech should recommend a size for you. My harness favored where I put it, but anywhere in that area keeps the install clean. I just copied someone else here and it worked out really well in that position.

This where I ended up going with it.

If it's long enough, not a bad location. I think you will even have good luck hiding the harness for a smoother look. Mine is in the firewall, doesn't look bad, but the wires are "there".

There is a plenty of wire and the harness is well routed going there.

How did that location work out under the carpet and the bend between the trans/body?
I like your location the best so far, I did not smooth and fill all the holes in my firewall just to drill a 2" hole in it.
What size hole did you drill and where can I find a grommet. I checked all the auto parts and hardware stores and do not have time to order.

I used a speartech harness & got the grommet from them as well. It was around $7 at the time. My engine/trans are set back quite a bit & I had to raise the rear of the trans with a shim to help with driveline angle. I'm not sure I could have squeezed it on the tunnel like that. I ended up with the hole in the area below where my vintage air lines come thru the firewall. My computer is mounted on the passenger inner fender. I was going for a clean look but not wanting to hide every single line or wire. With the AC, there really wasnt much space under the dash to fit the LS1 ecm, as its larger than the newer ones. I didnt have any extra length added to the harness. I wanted good access to everything, and im 90% driving, 10% show. On my 68 firebird we made a small bracket & mounted the ecm to the firewall above the AC lines on the pass side. On both cars we ran the heater hoses behind the fender but not the AC lines- they go straight from the firewall to the compressor. I always like to see how different builds are planned out and see everyone's creativity. Scott

I will post photos once I get it all done. I have the Dynamat complete. Coming through where did has kept most of the wires hidden behind the intake. I have more photos on my build thread.

Thanks. I need to get the Vintage air unit in then I can figure out where everything else will fall.

Thanks, Ill check out your build. My problem is I already installed my vintage air and the motor is in and ready, so It leaves me with no room to drill a hole a feed wires through. The trans tunnel looks like the best idea..even If I did heve the room.

My motor and trans was in. I laid it out and then drilled. I stuck paper in the tunnel to catch the fillings and used a small vac to suck them up. . I taped the hole edges and fed the harness from the inside. Harness fed through nice and makes it clean.

Good info thanks. great build I looked at yours before I even started mine.
Now if I could just find a grommet, just went to lowes/home depot/autozone/hardware stores/napa and found nothing close.
I hate to order and wait days and pay $10.00 shipping on a $2.00 parts...again.

Did you check McMaster Carr? Mine came with the harness. I split the grommet and installed after the harness was fed through.

Speartech sells their grommets, and advertise free shipping in the USA. I bought 2 in case I garf up the first one :-)
http://www.speartech.com/product_p/grommet.htm
They are very fast, and John wrote me: "You drill a 2 1/8" hole for the grommet. We usually split the grommet and then trim the ID to fit over the harness if necessary, then tape it into the harness."
Hope that helps.

Here is the best picture I can get of the harness coming up from the tunnel. Also the harness seems to setup to come in the passenger side.

That was what he told me as well. Could not remember the size so I looked at the hole saw I bought when I was in the garage this afternoon and it is a 2 1/8" that I used.
