View Full Version : where to bolt chain hoist to LSA
where are the best/preferred bolting points for an LSA or any LS for that matter? What should be removed? I'm using a four chain leveler type setup.

I do it the same way with a 4 chain and leveler.
John, looks like a FF GTM there.

Yes it is Michael, a customers car I've been working on. I don't use a leveler for many engine installs but I thought it would work out well for the GTM install which it did. The GTM is really tight to start with and wanted to do the install with accessories and trans so the leveler worked out well.
Into the sides of the heads, cool. I'm always impressed with how much weight four seemingly small bolts can hold. No matter how many engines I lift if I'm not using a 5/8 or larger bolt I worry
There are plates you can buy that bolt to the lifter valley cover bolts under the intake, but I'm not sure they can take the weight of an engine/trans- I think they're more made for pulling the engine only straight up and out. Those bolts are even smaller than the head bolts, so that'd really have you nervous....lol
Yeah the bolts that hold the Supercharger down were 8mm or smaller if I remember correctly. I mean i guess if you use all of them its pretty strong. dunno 10psi at about 1sf is roughly (very roughly) 1500 pounds to hold the supercharger to the block. hmm, still looks like setting yourself up to drill and tap 10 8mm bolts out of your aluminum engine and buy a new oilpan.
That GTM looks sick. if for any reason your customer decides that he would rather have a F-250, flatbed trailer, '68 full framed LT1/4l60 firebird, and CBR1000 I know that I could make that car happy.
