Hey guys a quick question for you or a little advise is needed. I have a 67 camaro with a fresh 383 stroker and th350 that is really dialed in and running great. I have someone who is really wanting to buy my current engine and I have a chance to replace it with a stock ls2 with long tube headers and a 6 sp manual transmission. My 383 is making somewhere between 450-490 hp and around 460 ftlbs of tq. Now for the question, would you do the swap or keep everything as is and possible update the transmission? This is a weekend driver with the Hotchkis tvs kit,Guldstrand mod,and Baer brakes on the front. Thanks

I would probably put a cam and springs in the ls2. Which 6 speed is it?

I hate gen I and II small blocks. I'd go with the LS2.

Thanks guys, I really want the ls2 because of the dependability but just hate to loose any hp. If I do the swap I wont have any extra money for extra power adders or any thing like that. Thanks again.

The LS2 or any LS for that matter...love a cam and spring upgrade. Long tube headers and a good tune - and you will have all the power the old motor had plus drivability. You'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner!

I would also take into consideration the fact that with the 6 speed swap, you may give up a little bit with the stock LS2, but you will be able to manipulate your RPM's easier. Plus when you do mod down the road you can likely make more dependable and streetable power with an LS2. At 450-490 HP, you are probably getting to the upper limits of what you can live with on the streets for a Gen 1 383.
