I have a 73 Camaro with 18 in wheels with a quick ratio steering box and I am looking into replacing it with a rack and pinion from Flaming River. I am not very happy with the feedback the steering box gives me. Has anyone installed a rack and pinion in a second gen Camaro and if so how do you like it?

My buddy has one on his 68 charger & it worked really well for about 3-5k miles then it just got plain scary on the road, he wouldn't even drive in the fast lane if the wall was coming up.. We just removed the rack & sent it back to flaming river.. I guess it's a common problem..
I have the steering box setup with misalignment spacers & Heims joints in place of most useable links - wasn't very expensive & works great on circle track cars - just a thought

you haven't had a DSE box then. I personally do not like how most retrofit rack kits install, not solid enough. We have swapped the DSE box into a number of cars all with excellent results in feel and performance.

I have used both the DSE and AGR boxes and both give fantastic feedback, from what I have seen with racks is that many induce some or more bump steer than the car started with (in factory style suspension) just get a better box

A prepped 670 box should work well: http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-223270.html
We've used the AGR box & liked it but a 670 box has a better control valve with less lash.
On any steering box, they need periodic lash adjustment. You might want to try that before switching to something else.

If you are just looking for a heavier steering wheel and more feedback from the road, you need to change your caster angle. Just have to adjust your upper control arms to move the top ball joints a bit further backwards

Thank you all for the input. I think I'll stick to the gear box and forgo the rack and pinion.
