i got car as a roller and installed a 350 motor and 700r4 trans. apparently the car has an external voltage regulator in harness, but i want to upgrade to using a later model alt. w/internal voltage reg as I already have it .my question is how do i wire new one in and what do i do with old external voltage reg and wiring after its in. im thinking new one is one wire setup but i noticed it also has the 2 wire plug that goes into it as well.what do i do to correctly wire in new one so it works correctly? any sugestions? thanks in advance

i will post pics when i figure out how

Check out the MAD Electrical site:
http://madelectrical.com/electrical-tech.shtml
He recommends going 3 wire for very good reasons. Read through the info and make your decision. This is a simple swap as long as you do it right and watch your wire sizes.

Mad has a lot of good info on their web site but unless you buy their manual or one of their kits, there are some small but important bits of information that are omited. I found this site with some simple alternator wiring diagrams. Look at the fourth drawing down from the top it shows you where to install two simple jumper wires on the external regulator plug which allows you to run an internal regulated alternator. Also, spend a little time looking at the first and third diagrams which show an external regulated and internal regulated system. There is not much difference between them. Be advised you may need to install a diode in the field wire to prevent backfeed if the car does not shut off with the key.
