View Full Version : What's Your Opinion of "Extreme Lee"?!

I am wanting the opinions of you guys (and gals) concerning "Extreme Lee." In case anyone doesn't know what this is, this was a custom-built '69 Dodge Charger that was built for Kenny Wayne Sheppard that was featured once on Rides.

On one hand, I thought that the tire/wheel combo violated the spirit of the original General Lee. Not only was it too large, it just didn't match the rest of the car.

The remainder of the car REALLY rocked, though. The engine was supposed to produce 630+ pounds-feet of torque; definitely NOT your Daddy's Charger! The interior was well-designed, also.

Again, what do you guys think?!

I really liked the car

I like it. Saw it at SEMA last year. Sits right. Wheels look way better in person. I'm more impressed with the fact that Kenny Wayne Shepard pursued the American Dream and then applied those rewards to fulfilling a childhood fantasy. That must be cool.

I'll be happy to build him some guitar shaped paddles if he wants to trade in his old-school 727/GV for a 4L80E with paddle shifter.

I haven't seen the said car, got any links to some pictures?

Guitar paddle shifters would be sweet! Could possibly do the same with the pedals...

I like it. To me bigger wheels look so much "meaner" than 15". I personally have no use for 15" wheels any longer.

I like it alot! I think the wheels look great...maybe if they woulda used a dark centered wheel it woulda looked a little more like the originals.

Get a better look at the wheels. They take the mopar rally rim center and incorporate the "Vector" wheel spokes into it. Budnick has a nice design, clean and simple. I like the car. I was built the way he wanted it or was sold on how it would be built. Kenny has a few other really nice cars besides this one.

If the "xtreme Lee" had 15-inch wheels like the original General Lee then it wouldn't be very "Extreme" would it?

Love the car.. uber cool in my book.. Now if we could just get him to jump it over something.. ;)

It looks good overall, but I think viperblue68 said it best where the wheels could use a gunmetal center. I personally think raised white letter tires would also be a step up, the tires have that "rubber band" look since they're such a low profile. Despite this, it looks like a fine, fine ride!

I think the name is really bad..sounds like a sticker someone would buy at Autozone...and why the "XTREME" is in quotes, I just can't figure that out, just doesn't look right.....cool car other than that, personally I would take his Ford they showed before the Charger, that car was killer....

It would have been even cooler if it was a 5 or 6 speed car. I know the original was an auto but just think how cool it would be to powershift the General Lee.

this car makes me sick, anything with "extreme" in the title makes me sick. anyone who uses the word "extreme" just isn't cool, and doesn't understand how overused that word is. that being said, the car does have some good attributes, i like the wheels, and there's nothing wrong with big power, but without better suspension and a manual trans it's just a showboat. the orange paint and confederate flag have got to go. that flag represents racism, opression, slavery, and none of the things that the south should be proud of.

the orange paint and confederate flag have got to go. that flag represents racism, opression, slavery, and none of the things that the south should be proud of.

:lmao:

Why should the orange paint go? Is orange a rasist color???

I guess they should ditch the "Lee" and the Dixie horn too? So much for being a tribute to the General Lee car.. Should they burn all the episodes of the D of H? Maybe they should have painted the car green, named it the Captain Smith and filmed in Oregon.. Horn could have played Kumbaya or somethin..

And actually the flag does not represent those things.. it represents a time when part of the US wanted to break away for a variety of reasons, one of which was keeping the travesty known as slavery. I'm sure there are some rasist people that use the confederate flag as a symbol for thier world view but that does not mean that is what the flag represents.

It would be like saying our current flag should be view with disgrace due to the small percent of bad things that have been done under its banner.. what was done to the indians, racism, segregation, and any other unsavory thing that has happend under the watch of the stars and stripes.

I don't imbue inanimate objects with the bad actions of people.. it was not a flag that enslaved people, it was an out of date mindset and a failure of character.. People should look at the mindset of the people behind the symbol and not the symbol itself. The "Duke Boys" never uttered a racist ideal or showed support for the institution of slavery so the flag on their roof was not a symbol of that but rather pride for their southern heritage. Which, asided from slavery/racism, has a lot to be proud about.

And before you bring up the Nazi Swastika flag I will say that in that case everything the flag represents is evil and vile and the comparison is not fair.

Now back to the topic.. oh, and Im a Yank ;)

well said Steve, i am 1/3rd irish immigrant and about 1/3rd cherokee, i was born and bred in texas and am texan/southern to the core. i am absoultely not a racist in way shape or form, but i do have a confederate flag tattoo on my arm. the flag does stand for more than slavery like you said and the south does have a very proud heritage and they have absolutely no problems standing up for what they beleive in, which is why i have the tattoo. every now and then the system needs a little shake up to continue the american way of life. the main reason for the actual start of the civil war had nothing to do with slavery it was all about money and the fact that the south had a lot more of it than the north to be truthful. slavery was a big part of it though. that to me was the biggest travesty this nation has ever committed, that and what was done to the indians. sorry guys didn't mean to go on a rant but i get kind of tired of people taklking about the confederate flag being a symbol of racism when it really is not. my personal opinion is that all the nazi-racist KKK aholes should be exiled to somewhere.

Please try to avoid politically-charged discussions on this board, including but not limited to the meaning of the confederate flag, things the US has done that may or may not have been bad, racism, slavery, states rights, or anything along those lines.

There are plenty of boards that welcome those types of discussions. This is not one of them.

When you shove the term "extreme" in front of any name it is only a problem since people will always go "that isn't EXTREME... he should have..."

Is the car EXTREME - well... for a MOPAR, the word is yes. You guys also have to understand that there are simply not that many companies that produce aftermarket performance parts for old Dodges - There is one company that is getting into it - Magnum Racing - they have a full tubular k-frame w/coil overs and some other good stuff... but other than that its pretty slim.

Take it from someone who is slowly converting a 68' Charger into a pro-touring car. As for the GV overdrive - well think of it like this - my car has a reverse manual body through a Cheetah shifter coupled to a GV OD unit - I HAVE to shift. I don't have a "Clutch" persay, but I do have to click my bright switch on the floor to engage the OD in for all gears... it doesn't like fun but trust me, its a riot!

The more I look at KWS car and my own, I am seeing that mine is actually more "Extreme" than his is... hmm... maybe I should change my plate from "MR ANGRY" to "XTRM ANGR"...

i don't know man, i always thought a S&H torino would make a pretty cool power tour car, throw some 17" AR ansen slots on it, some big brakes and sway bars and lower it a couple inches. they ride like big banana boats so you wouldn't have to worry about your back or butt being sore after a long drive.

But seriously, if your creativity can only reach as fas as a syndicated show on the CMT Network, at least pay respects to the ICON by naming it properly. In regards to the confederate flag, let it go, it's a TV show car from the 80's. All it represents is that the doors are welded for "racing" and the car can outrun Roscoe and Cletus on any given day.

the funny thing about the nazi flag is that the swastika was pirated from the aryans, a tribal, nomadic people who were really good at taking stuff over. like persia and india, for example. they called themselves "aryas" in sanskrit, which meant "superior", i.e. better than the persian wimps who got their butts kicked. hitler decided he wanted to be part of a superior race, so voila he started stealing crap from the aryans. the aryans didnt attempt to exterminate the people they conquered, though- far from it, actually. they did a bang-up job of advancing the growth of the indo-european culture that we spout from today.

also, the end of slavery was nothing but a last-ditch effort to end the war. there were tons of people up north who loved their slaves, and lots in the south who supported abolition.

this isn't meant to be a political debate, just some neat information that came to mind.

as for the extremelee- stupid name. an "xtreme lee" to me would need to be so wickedly powerful that they have to tweak it on a frame machine weekly from the sheer power of the beast. what the heck is "xtreme" anyway? is it like xmas, pronounced "christreme"?
