I know this has to have been asked before.

I have an 18x10" front wheel with 5.125" backspace that I am mounting on the front of my 68 Camaro.
I got a good price on the wheels and can narrow them if need be.
I have seen 18x10's on a second gen.
Anyone know if these will work without narrowing?
Would rather narrow the wheels with narrower tires versus working with fender lip,
as it seems that the inner tubs will be affected if I roll the fenders, leaving a gap?

Car has:

Factory subframe
Global West upper\lower control arms
Speed Tech coilovers using stock spring pockets
Factory spindles
Tall ball joints

I can adjust the ride height.

Thanks in advance!

I'm new to this but I recently researched this issue. What I found was the maximum width on a stock frame was 8.5" on the front wheel with a 4.75 backspace and 245 tire. I may be wrong but you may go wider if you add some sort of steering stop to keep the wheels from hitting on the inside

I was recommended to use a 9-9.5" wheel by Kore 3, who is helping me with my brake setup, so still unsure.

I want to have a normal turning radius.

Thanks for the reply. Can you share the source of your research?

I found a screen shot I saved. It was about a 69 so I'm not sure of the difference in room on the outside but you have the open round wheel wells .

Looks like I will possibly have to modify my fenders?

Not possibly, definitely for 10's and 275's
The Ridetech parts are well thought out, but I wish they had done some fitting to see what wheel was best on an uncut front fender. The 48hr camaro inner and outer fenders are cut. Not a problem on a car being built, but definitely not something that will work on an already painted car.

In the thread above, there is a post by someone who had 265 tires on a 9 inch rim with uncut fenders, which make sense. A 245 on a 8 inch rim with 4.75 BS fits fine stock, so a 9 inch rim with 5.75BS(what Ridetech recommends) adds 1 inch of rim and 20mm of tire width inboard.

5.125 on 10 inch rim dos not fit unless you stretch the fender or raise the car like a 4x4.

That could be a new style. Combining pro touring with those tonka toy looking car's that sit 4ft off the ground .

I have a 67 bird. I have 1 degree neg camber(helps alot for rubbing trust me) GW uppers, factory lowers, Ridetech spindles 2" drop and 18x8 with 4.75
BS with 245/40/18. There is no way I could fit more than 4 7/8 BS and no way to go with a 10 unless you get the ridetech true turn even then it will take serious work to go above a 9.5. I would have gone bigger if I could have trust me. Without the alignment I did rub on the top of the fender slightly. You have to lower the car to about a finger above the tire to get a good look or any larger tire is a waste since it will look stupid.
In summary I'd say with the right alignment and some prayer you might sneak a 8.5" wheel but forget that 10 without a change of suspension.

Here's mine. I have 10.5" on a 5 7/8 BS in the back on a 285/40/18 which is supposed to be impossible. I can tell you thats the limit on the back

Thanks for all the replies.
I am having the wheels narrowed in front to fit.
What width should I go for?
Will an 8.5 inch fit, or should I stick with 8"?
Also, what backspace on an 18x8.5 or 18x8?

With the Tru turn system, and a totally stock uncut inner/outer fender, you can run a 18x9.5 with a 5.5 backspace and a 275 tire. This is what we run on our 68 camaro that we keep on the west coast.

and with stock steering max back spacing its about 4 3/4 81/2 rim or 8 to be safe

True turn is awesome. Its the best deal for a larger front wheel. The ridetech spindle is a gem. Read up on it. Its worth every cent and is part of the true turn. My 2 cents if you're not going to do the true turn, align 1 degree neg camber 5-6 degrees pos caster 1/16 toe in and run a 4.75 BS on a 8" rim and a 245/40/18. It will be snug, fit and look good. Anymore and you just will be too focused on the rub and where you can and cant go. The 8.5 is really only going to allow you to run a 255/40/18 and I think the slightly larger diameter may be a problem.
