Has anyone seen these? They have been around for about 3 years but I just now came across them. I am interested in the CH350G. Is is supposed to be a Vortec head with an 87-95 Intake bolt pattern and port shape.

Some have said this defeats the purpose of a vortec head, that the Port is the key to the vortecs power. Some have said the chamber is a big part, and these are vortec chambers.

I can not find any details, and am trying to find what the lift limit is for these.

There is a cylinder head supplier onebay selling them assembled.

I emailed them asking, " What is the lift limit for the heads, and the max lift for the springs installed."

The reply was " these are stock heads with stock lift"

Really? Stock for what????

I am going to start a thread for my IROC soon, but am basiclly putting it back together with the TPI and a mild cam for daily driver duty. Vortecs require a $500 base intake that flows worse then stock. The only other option I had found for heads were summits 87-95 aluminum heads, but I don't want to spend $1000 for mild heads for a daily driver.

These Vortec 'hybrids' would be great coming in at $600. Otherwise, I am going with stock 083 L98 heads, which I will still end up at about $500 when they are done.

Enginequest is out of the office till Jan 2. I can wait on their reply regarding lift, but am curious what others think about these "hybrids"

All the descriptions online are just copy and paste from the enginequest press release.

This is the place that said they are stock.

No one? Is there a rerason these heads have not caught on? Seems like a great idea. Wonder why I haven't seen them anywhere.

I've got EQ CC170BA (aka CH350E I think) on my 350. These are vortec clones including the intake port but have the early intake bolt pattern. I bought them bare from the EQ ebay store a couple of years ago for cheap. I posted a few times about my experience on camaros.net, and I think my pics can still be seen at http://www.picasaweb.com/barryfrise/eqheads. EQ heads seem to be of good quality; racers and rebuilders seem to like them a lot, but they just don't market them like the competition to "hobbyists" like us I guess?

Paceperformance.com offers the vortec with cut down valve guides to allow up to 480 lift, assembled for under $300 each. Jegs has intakes for under $200. This seems to be the way to go, or am I missing something?

You may be missing something, or can you post a link to the head you're talking about? I see the stock Vortec head (typically good for .470" lift) for $299.50 at Pace. Performance Vortec mods can involve cutting the valve guide down for more seal to retainer clearance (usually good for at least .525", there's the alternative ghetto grind or beehive spring swap method to gain clearance too), replacing the pressed-in rocker studs with threaded ones for strength, and drilling out the push rod holes slightly to provide clearance if 1.6 ratio rocker arms are used. GM Vortec's are known for cracking in the exhaust seat too, so check that on a used set. EQ heads have all that basically done, including more meat for the exhaust seat issue. Their marketing and tech info for hot rodders sucks, though.

With all the info in the last post, the more comparable head would be the bowtie, which is just past $500. RHS might make a more affordable head with better intake choices.

What you are missing, is I am running TPI. A TPI intake for vortec heads cost $500 and flows worse than the stock intake, and has very little material to allow porting.

dart has iron heads that will out flow the vortecs for around the same price assembled. and you can find aluminum heads on craigslist and ebay for about the same price.. granted new springs and a valve job would be in order. but there are way better choices then vortecs

Max flow is not always best.

I am building a very mild TPI engine. It will never see anything more than 5500 rpm. It will spend most of its time idle-3000 rpm.

With a cam with less than .500" lift.

So I am looking for an effecient head that works great at low rpm / lift levels.

Again, not too mention my 1987 and up bolt pattern intake.

Now, for my high rpm high hp build for my 71 camaro, I will probably look at a Dart or AFR head.
