Just looking for some advice and/or opinions. I’m wanting to do a PT project and I have a 68 Chevelle that’s been sitting in “The Project Line” for nearly twenty years. I bought it in High School drove it home and tore it apart to build a Pro-Streeter. In the meantime I bought another project, and another, etc…. and so it was moved into my parents barn. I think I know where most of the parts are, but it’s going to need a total rebuild with lots of new sheet metal and total interior. The rear frame has already been hacked so I could easily change the rear suspension to a 3-link or something. But I’ve been reading about all the front suspension problems. My question is what would you do? Would you find a decent first generation Camaro, or the use the $8-10K to upgrade the free Chevelle?

Thanks, Jason

Its up to you, its your car, but I would work with what I have...otherwise you would end up with 2 projects...i know from experience. 8-10k should get you started.

WELCOME JASON!

I'd go with the Chevelle, but I may be a bit biased.

Well I would say the Camaro, and I am a little partial, BUT you have a free car do it....it doesn't get any better than FREE.

Build the Chevelle because it's free.

Do the Chevelle. It's already there, and I can bear witness to Vince's .... Ummm... Issues with project after project. You already have the 'Velle in a position where you can call it a blank slate. You'll have no problem finding the resources on this site.

I would go with the 68 Chevelle for sure. Like mentioned above,, there are just soo many Camaros and a 68 Chevelle would be really nice to see.

Go with the chevelle this time around. As others have said, you already have the car, and it's free. You can start on the project as soon as time allows, where as if you buy a camaro you've got to hunt a good one down. Took me two years to find mine, which is longer than most, but it was exactly what I wanted (a 95% rust-free shell). I would do the Chevelle and if you still want a camaro, sell the chevelle when it's done, and use that money for a camaro build.

dont do it I want to be the only one with a 68 chevelle. Seriously I would go with the 68 chevelle because it would cost 8-10k just to buy a decent project camaro, then you would have nothing to work with.

Thanks for all of your input, but the plot thickens. I found a solid 69 Camaro in primer with all of the rust repaired (new quarters and front fender) with a 350/350 combo for $7500 not too far from here. Just when I thought I had everything fiqured out.

It sounds like you have already decided. The Chevelle has been sitting for 20 years, you want to do a project, yet you overlook it and find a Camaro. I prefer Camaro's but if I already had a Chevelle I would do that. However, if you won't be happy with a Chevelle, do the Camaro! There's a reason they are so popular. They're awesome!!:1st: :thankyou:

you're not gonna be happy unless you do what you want.

Whatever you do, buy the 69 camaro. If it is rust free, with a running 350/350 combo... you can not go wrong. (even if you sell it)
