I am going to be installing my new timing cover tonight, then moving on with the rest of the engine assembly. I have a question for everyone. I am installing a Fel Pro 2335 timing cover gasket. It is rubber with a steel core and is a flat profile gasket. It didn't come with any instructions. Do I use any sort of silicone to assemble it? What about hylomar instead?
Curious to hear everyone's opinion. Thanks in advance!

You can get 20 different opinions here. If you do not use RTV or similar to start with, you will have wished you did if it leaks.

Have you checked the Felpro website?
With not other information, I would have to go with Josh. Use RTV now, or you will probably wish you did.

I've always heard rubber should not get a sealer.

Hylomar is used in application where the gasket will see fuel. For a timing cover if you want to retain the use of the gasket you can use a gasket dressing like Ultra rubber gasket sealant and dressing. If you want to lose the gasket i would use Ultra black or the Right Stuff gasket maker (more expensive).

Hylomar isn't as limited as you might think:
Hylomar Universal Blue can be used to seal joint faces or threaded parts. It is effective for sealing metal to metal and plastic to plastic. Typical applications include water & oil pumps, instrument inspection covers, cylinder heads, oil sumps, intake manifolds, timing case covers, gearbox & transmission housings and as a coating for pre-formed gaskets

And I appreciate all of the replies. They are as diverse here as I have found searching the interwebz

I didn't mean limited I just meant to say it has some application specific properties vs a silicone gasket maker. A silicone based gasket maker is not formulated to see applications with fuel where as Hylomar is. If you're using a gasket you can use it with either the Hylomar or the gasket dressing. Or you can use the silicone gasket maker on its own. I bet you'll have equal success. One last comment would be since mixing and matching other companies parts i have found some irregularities with the surfaces where a RTV gasket maker on its own would help fill the gaps.
