Hey guys....well i just had a idea pop in my head today....i really like my V40's on my car....the polished lip is nice....but i think it would look way better if it was a natural cast look instead of polished like the centers which put it pretty close to what the trans am cars ran back in the day..since going be a track car...think the look would fit more right in with my vintage trans am look...here pic of the car now........what you guys think?..

You could td to plastidip them to see if you like it. I think there are a few places where you can find different colors.

Are you sure those old ones werent just grungy with brake dust and from driving off track? They beat the snot out of those cars. The restored ones seem to have polished lips on them. Even in some of the old pictures they look shiney. Probably at the beginning of the season.
I have a 71 Camaro too and am trying to do a vintage trans am look as well on the outside. I'd leave your rims the way they are. Your car looks great.

The originals had an "as cast" center, but a machined lip. I recreated that look by going to a buddies shop, putting the wheel on a balancing machine, red scotchbrite, WD40 and held the pad steady as the wheel spun. You can change the effect using different grade sandpapers.(have to take the tire/valve stem off to get the right effect)

I really like the car the way it is. The polished lips tie in with the bumpers, headlight trim rings and rocker molding. I've gone to the Vintage SCCA races at Sears Point and most of the pics I have show the cars with polished lips.
