Hey there. I have something in mind that Im hoping one of you can help me visualize.

I'm considering a paint scheme similar to the Yunick Camaro but with a satin black on top (instead of the copper) and Subaru WRC blue on the flanks (instead of black).

I want minimal chrome, no front bumper, satin black in the grill and wheels with a black center and polished rim.

Can someone photochop that up or do a quick & dirty rendering for me? That's the best photo I have, dunno if it's worth using as a starting point.

Thanks,
True

By the way, how would one best achieve a satin black finish?

Paint w/o a clear over it, or paint with a sanded clear?

You might want to head down to your local Ducati dealer. I owned a Ducati Monster Dark (motorcycle) that has a matte black finish it can be washed, waxed, etc. But it gives a nice painted look.

Excellent!
Thanks for the tip Steve!
Now that you mention it, I've seen one of those bikes and that finish is EXACTLY what I am thinking about.

Now....I wonder what it might actually look like on a car as described above?

Going for the streetfighter/Trans-Am thing.
I found a guy that makes a two piece 17" minilite replica wheel and he will build it in any offset I want. SWEET!
These wheels, but with a black center, this blue is kinda close to the Subie color, but a bit too bright.

Personally, I think pink would be better. :)

they are making "flat clears" now that can be used to get the suede look you are after.

Sorry Tony....I just can't see driving a pink car. Is it my monitor, or does that look like Dodge "Plum Crazy" on that thing?

Thanks for the chop. I kinda dig the way it looks (not so much the purple color) but I have a better idea of how it might turn out.

Damn true, here is a link to what i think you want. It is a real simple, inexpensive, durable acrlic enamel with activator and hardner.

WOAHMYGAWD! That freakin RAWKS! Thanks Tony!!!!!!!

I am outta my mind lookin at that!

Whatcha think? Should the black carry all the way over the spoiler and cover the tail light panel, or end at aft end of the trunk lid?

either way is cool. That will look great, get to work!

Dupont hot rod black works good, I just did some helmets flat black with gold leaf and red pinstripes.Mix it thoroughly, it seperates.I threw a couple of clean nuts and bolts in the can and shook it.

I'm liking that too. Seperate the black-n-blue by a thin silver accent stripe and it's done. Are ya done yet?! :) j/k

and here it is.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gifhttps://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

color changed. back fin painted black. mirror removed. interior mirror blacked out. rollbar painted blue to match car. door handle and lock shaved. Numbers removed. exaust removed. car lowered another inch. Ultima GTR wheels added. grille blacked out. window trim blacked out. Silver stripe added. fattend the back tires up a bit.

and a cherry on top. :)

Oh, and do I think the trunk fin and taillamp panel should also be black.
Positively. It'll carry that sinister look you want all over the car, from every angle.

Hmm, so does the silver stripe straddle the crease at the tops of the fenders, does it hang off to the outside, or sit on the inside of the crease? Also, does it end at the top corner of the grille opening and taillight panel or wrap around? Maybe Kris could comment.

I'm still thinking of color choices and since i haven't started the resto, there will be lots of time to think.. After reading the threads i got back to uing the same colors as now, but with painted roof instead of the vinyl top, which i don't like
The problem is, that if i paint the whole car white, it won't look as "mean" as i think it does now

How about a white with som kind of effect, black rally stripes and blackpainted roof on this one?
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

Also considering a blue or black with silver stripes

take a look at my Montery Historics photo thread (http://0-days.net/?go=thread). Some great paint schemes on the old Trans-Am cars based in white. I have always really liked the Lennox car (http://go-advertising.com/?go=car).

Thanks a ton Tony. It really helps to have a visual of where I am headed.

I do think I'm gonna go with the Team III minilite replica wheel though.

Once I get back from Italy in May (as a married guy :twothumbs ) I'll be able to get crackin!

Trace the car out with the "Polygonal lasso tool", click Image, drag to Adjustments, drag to "Hues/Saturation", select "Colorize". That'll get you to the ballpark of the color you want.

Wow dude, that is pretty close to spot-on. I'm planning on flat-black on the top, I'd like to see those wheel centers in black for comparison (who knows it might look terrible), and we need to ditch the front bumper and add a rear spoiler and air dam (also in black).
