i have a keisler 4l65e transmission level one and i believe im going to need a upgrade soon, plus i wanted engine braking which i currently dont have since i have paddle shifters,
im from new york and dont know if a qualified shop around here can handle this,
i need more of a specialist than a regukar trans shop.

thanks Pete

Hi Pete,
We frequently get calls on the "I think I need an upgrade, oh and engine braking, too" subject. Assuming a sound functioning transmission, the culprit is usually Typewriter-itis.

This is where a mostly stock transmission -- through creative writing -- is masquerading as a high-performance transmission. In other words, a stock transmissions, when coupled with real power and high rpm cannot keep up. They shift slowly, and react to WOT upshifts late. A mismatched converter will yield similar response plus rpm drop-off on decel. That particular symptom usually rings the engine braking bell when in fact a proper converter is needed.

A good clue comes in the form of a trans that works reasonably well at light loads, but shows it's weaknesses when the hammer drops. Sound like your situation? Here's a trick: Try shifting at 4500 rpm -- the stock limit of a 4L65E. If your otherwise sound transmission shifts well at 4500 rpm, but lags at 6000 rpm, see above. It's time for a real high performance transmission built by folks with big brains. There's a few good shops around.

Heres a few in no order. RPM trans in adderson,in flt trans in Illinois, performabuilt, jakes trans, bowler trans. I personally would pic one that is closest to me.Makes easier for rebuilds or issues.
