I started to think on my new 68 Mustang project. I want to make a low budget daily driver but that does not mean that I want to keep the old suspension. That is the first thing I will remove for sure.Anyone have experience with the Cobra IRS in early Stangs? Are they good? Are they easy to install under the 67-70 Mustang with a little skills? How are they performing compare to a coil over system like RideTech or other systems on the market? I am really interested.

There is at least one guy doing this conversion on the site; several have been done. One must of course ask why so many guys take these rear ends out of the late model cars, however...

They take out the IRS for a solid axle to drag race it, better traction supposedly.
To the OP, check the width as the IRS is fairly wide. Installing it should be not too hard since Ford made it to bolt into a Mustang. You could even use the rear floorpan from the Mustang, but I personally would make my own mounts tied to the roll cage.

Cannot speak for the quality, only know of its existence.

You can get the center section, uprights and hubs brand new. I am sure you can find the control-arms also new or used. Then build your own subframe and install it in to your car this way. So there are a few different options out there.

This is very good mod, if you are not planning to to go over 400 hp... The width could be compensated with wheels from new Mustang. ET is somewhere around 38-42mm depending on the wheels... Minitub it and put set of FR500C 10 inch Fikse wheels on it... ;)

Good choice with the rear suspension ;-) I'm going through this build now with a '67. The IRS is a good rear it just needs some understanding and minor modifications. At the very least ALL of the bushings must be replaced! The factory rubber ones suck and create too much unwanted control arm deflection.
As mentioned above, Dave Stribling is the only guy I know making brackets to simply bolt the original cradle to your frame rails. It'll certainly save you some time (trust me) but it really depends on your desired results. I ended up cutting all of the factory mounts off and building my own brackets to bolt the cradle down.
Anyway, here's my build thread if you're interested.
