Well it is generally impolite to discuss a lady's weight but then again Penny is not exactly a "lady".. lol
A little heavier than I expected but the Dana 60 and big block are not lite items.
Drum roll?
Total Weight (without driver and a few gals of gas) = 3420 lbs
Front axle weight = 1890 lbs
Rear axle weight = 1540 lbs
So, the magic question will how much weight off the front will an LS2 be?? If I can get 300lbs off the front then that would be great since I am sure my back weight will go up some with the new fuel cell and other suspension tweeks.
I know there are many other factors but like corner weights but this should give a decent indication of saved weight.

I wouldn't have guessed that steve.....I would have thought around 3300lbs max!

Hmmm,a BBC weighs in the neighborhood of 750lbs,,a LS2 is around 450lbs. 300 off the nose should make a huge difference,Steve.

Full cage, stock type suspensions, BBC all add up pretty quick.
I have to ask, by the time you change everything to what you have been posting why did you buy a done car? Nice ride as is but it just doesn't seam closer to your wants as a Pro Tour car??? It can't be just for the paint as after swapping everything out you know what will be next. Just curious not putting down car or anything.

Thats not to bad, it will be alot lighter with a LS2. Are there plans to change the rear to save weight.

Wow, 3400 with a rat motor? That is not that bad at all. I'd have guessed at least 200 lbs heavier. Interesting.

Three reasons..
1. the only way to get a car with good paint and body is to buy a done car. If it is not done chances are that has cheepo paint or iffy body work. I was not going to sit in paint jail for 6 months. I will NOT repaint this car anytime soon. I love the color and how it was done. Has already picked up a best paint award and all the body panels are pristine..
2. I've sold a lot of the parts off the car, $8,000 dollars worth so far. That money will fund saving the car from a life of lackluster performance in anything but a straight line.
3. It is an interesting project. The car is basicly pro-street with a set of pro-touring wheels and decent brakes. re-purposing the car from a drag deal to a road/track deal is cool and I sure there are more than a few drag cars out there that would like to try something new like going around a corner faster than 4 miles per hour.
And no worries in asking questions.. I don't get offended easily :)

No, I love the Dana 60 and besides swapping out a few parts (like a more sensical PHR and shocks/springs) it will stay about the same. Oh, and I will having Ricks make me a stainless fuel cell to replace the plastic jegs unit.

Remember the car has no AC, no heat, no wiper system, etc.. so that does knock some off the weight. Im sure the glass hood helped as well.
The Dana 60, full cage and stuff adds weight. I really hope to have the car aroud 3100lbs when done but that depends on if I dynomat and do stuff like that.

I dont know much about the LS2's. Is the block aluminum?
Yes, and it has a composite intake to take even more weight off it. I wonder if a T56 is heavier than a TH400.. oh wait, Im sure the TH400 and gear vendors unit is heavier than a TH400 and converter. hmm.. more weight savings!!!

Steve,
Why the gear venders? The T56 with flywheel is lighter than a TH400 – I know I lifted both into the back of my truck – ‘bout broke my back.

You lost me on the question...
The car NOW has a GV unit and a TH400... those are going bye-bye in favor of a T56..
That should be less weight but I am not sure how much. I will also go from the steel driveshaft to an aluminum or carbon fiber.

I love Penny just the way she is. Putting a LS2 in her would be like taking Pamela Anderson’s breast implants out. But looking at your last car I think I still will love her just as much.

I have to bust out steve, I think what he doesnt' want to tell us, is that the car isn't what he first thought it was. I think he thought it was a protouring streetfighter, but it turned out as a prostreet car. Good for him though, I hope you end up with exactly what you wanted. What fun is to buy a car already done anyway, Now you will have the best of both worlds! Can't wait to see it done!

You got me.. :)
The car did turn out to be more drag strip than I thought.. but I knew I was gonna change stuff anyways and the important parts of the car are better than I had hoped for. Besides whining about stuff just gets old.. when you get lemons just make some lemonade..
Payton will tell you that if you go for a drive in the car it feels very sure footed and the chassis is so stiff that it gives the illusion that she can handle good. It is at speed and when you have been behind the wheel for a bit that you say "damn, this car could handle MUCH better". One thing is for sure, this car flat out hauls ass, just don't take that corner too fast! lol
And it really is a true "Street Fighter" I think Steevo would agree on this. The problem is that I want to road track and not just terroize the streets and hit drag strips. So what to do? What I always do, attack the car with money and wrenchs and make it right. I feel much more attached to this car for some reason, more than I did on the '69 so I will be keeping Penny for a long while.. the other project cars will come and go.
I think the transformation from drag queen to road-track star should be entertaining and maybe I will learn a few things along the way..
The short version would be the car was a heavyweight prize fighter wearing ballet shoes.. lol..
hey don't ask steevo anything! You''ll be sorry! Pretty soon you will be keeping that automatic and putting in one of dem paddle shifter thingys

I just removed and weighed my th400, gear vendors, and torque converter for shipping. The th400 alone was right about 138 lbs dry if I remember correctly, with the converter being around 40-50 depending on the fluid, and the gear vendors with the large adapter was just under 60 lbs.
Now the t56 was just weighed for shipping, and guess what, it weighed right at 138 lbs too, right on the nose, kinda weirded me out. But you will save the ~100 lbs from the converter, and the gear vendors.
Hey USAZR1 is the 750 lbs for a rat motor typical for all iron, anyone know what we're looking at for BBC weight savings with aluminum heads, or even aluminum block?
300lbs savings going to a ls1 is like a 30 hp advantage, I may have to rethink my monster project...

We had the 1969 Drift camaro on the scales last week and it came in at 2950lbs. Iron BBC with aluminum heads and manifold, aluminum radiator, full 2" 095 DOM cage, truckarm rear, stock front, power steering, no fiberglass parts on the car at all, stock z28 hood that has been sectioned and the scoop raised, no a/c, heat, or door glass.

Actually to be dead honest I thought you bought the wrong car as there is a 67 in just about the exact color but with full on pro touring type suspension and interior. I believe it was on the cover of Super Chevy within the last 2 years and I think it is from Ca. I thought that is the car you bought until the suspenion and the big block pics were posted.
Nice car anyway and once you finish building one there is always the drive to build another. I guess we need that Pro Turing definition. Don't change anything it might fall into the category anyway. Good luck

Are you keeping the (four-inch?) cowl hood? I had a custom four inch high bump on my Camaro and hated trying to see around it. My new front clip will have a flat hood.

Steve,
From the pix on your site, I see an MII front clip and four bar out back. Maybe she just needs a little adjustment? Or maybe she needs new uprights and a 3-link?
Chassis wise, Bad Penny IS what II Much ALMOST became. Then Katz Tsubai got involved with the II Much project and the car's handling potential rose to a whole new level. I suggest you give him a call. Or give me a call, I know where to find him.
As for the weight: Maybe you should have called her Miss Piggy?

Hey Steve, being a mopar fan I know a bit about the dana 60. The Dana 60 weighs in at just under 15lbs more than the 8 3/4 mopar rear. THe 83/4 is probably comparable to the Ford 9 inch in weight.
So you wouldnt be saving much weight by ditching it unless you are going to some sort of aluminum case type of deal.
But you would be losing the tremendous strength that it offers.
Well it is generally impolite to discuss a lady's weight but then again Penny is not exactly a "lady".. lol

Moparguy.. I am NOT NOT ditching the Dana 60.. no way no how..
Steevo, Not doing much out back.. talked to Katz and he gave a decent review of my 4 link. Gonna swap out the shocks/springs (drag stuff on there now) and ditch the PHR for a longer more parralel one.
The MII deal needs to go.. it is not bad but a C5 deal will be much better and the swap will make for a good story.. a swap where the finished product is put through every test I can think of.. maybe I will find a hot shoe from here to drive and give an unbiased opinion.. hmmm
Hey, be nice to Penny.. She is concious about her figure.. Right now she probley weighs about 2500lbs.. ;)

Didn't see the 67, if I would have seen it maybe I would have bought it.. looked a lot and bought what I liked.. love the car and thought it would be fun to repourpose the car to a PT deal.. If I would have bought any "done" car I would have redone it.. I can't help tearing stuff apart and putting my mark on it.. Best thing about the 68 is the paint and the pristine all original sheet metal body.. after the 69 that is a joy to behold.
The nice thing now is that when the 68 is done I can keep and enjoy it and take out my desire to build stuff on the normal magazine project cars (the Mustang and next car.. maybe a Duster..)

Steevo's right. It sounds like Penny is very close to what II Much was gonna be. Make no mistake about my meaning, though: I think BP is bad-ass. Just not quite a full bore pro-tourer (or is that g-Machine?).
Watch out for that Katz fellow. We started off with a Panhard bar relocation. :)
