Hello! Name is Emil and im in North Platte,NE. I have a 72 Dart that I bought in 1996 to put an engine I had in from a totaled Ramcharger. The motor was a 400/451 that I built in 1994 on a whim. Long story short I used to drink more than I should have and ran from the cops one night in that Ramcharger and well thankfully nobody was hurt but that Rmacharger was totaled. So I pulled the motor and it sat in my garage for a couple years until I found the Dart under a tree for $250. I eventually built the Dart with a good 727,found an 8 3/4,put in some 4.10s bolted on the sticky mickeys and bracket raced it on and off for about 12 yrs. It ran a best of 11.96 at 112mph at 2400ft. elevation. Engine has flat tops 10.1,stock crank, rods, ported 452 heads by me and a .510 lift Comp hyd cam. Fast forward to 2 yrs ago and I now have a wife and 2 boys. Drag racing is fun but expensive and since my engine was still going strong and can survive on pump gas I wanted to make the car more versatile and family oriented. So the big n littles needed to go and a swaybar was also needed. I also loved the look of the Pro Touring cars these days and really wanted to see it adapted to my old bracket car. So here a few pics of the transformation. This one was the last day at the strip.

Last winter I decided it needed longer legs so I found a Viper T56 and set about installing that. Then it snowballed into pulling the engine,Milodon Road race pan, aluminum driveshaft, rebuild rearend with 3.91s,Hotchkis rear springs,Firm Feel 1.06 torsion bars, Performer Rpm intake, Fast EZ efi, 25 gallon fuel tank and intank Walbro. Also got new buckets and redid the backseat. Then had the rear wheels widened to 18x12. I still havent recovered completely financially lol!

Hey Emil, glad to see you on here. A lot has happened with our 66 since the last time we saw you but all is well now or will be by spring.
Yep, our son Sam is "Saminator" on here. His car would be a lot further along if he wasn't constantly wrenching on the rest of our projects.
I'm sure we'll run into you at another event before too long.

Thanks man, I feel the same way. If you go to any dragstrip across the country you will see plenty A body Mopars. Ive always known these cars were not one trick ponys. The factory geometry and torsion bar setup is easily upgraded and can go a long way before it needs ditched IMO. My next mod is gonna be power steering. My car is big block powered and a manual steering box is all that fits, but, Borgeson just came out with a Delphi 600 box that looks real promising. Currently my setup is a Flaming River 16.1 manual that works good and is suprisingly precise but I really want to Autox this thing and I know it would be a struggle with the 275s on the front and manual box. Also would like more power since the engine is getting a little tired and a 450hp big block doesnt hold up against much this day and age.

Updates, biggest Griffin I could fit, and in the process of power steering conversion..had to fab the brackets myself of course,Mopar, but I did use a Small block shivvy head mount bracket for the pump lol!

Well I got this thing back on the road and all I can say is WOW! The Borgeson Delphi 600 conversion box is one of the top 2 upgrades i've done to this car. Effortless turning but solid on center feel without being over-assisted. It feels perfect, seriously. Road Course on the schedule in June for me,cant wait.

I'm partial to darts Control arms are RMS and the headers are an old,1997, set of CPPA's. They were what became TTI.

Those are great shocks, I used them for a short while and was very impressed with there compliance to switch from track to street, and work well in both environments, Fox shocks are some of the best on the market right now!

Yeah they are actually smoother that the Bilstiens! Didnt think that was possible. My car currently has an iron headed BB in the front and even though im sure these were not exactly tailored for my combo, these gave me a confidence boost on turn in lol!

72BBSwinger
06-08-2013, 09:02 PM
It is reliable with an in tank Walbro. I bet it works really well on something better than my old loose drag motor without a great vacuum signal. I need a fresher engine to give an honest eval on it. As far as its on track performance I never got a single burp or hesitation during any corners with it.

Definitely plan to shed some pounds somehow. Currently getting a 6.1 Hemi together for it and that sould shed 50-60lbs of the BB combo. Also want to do a glass front bumper, we will see what shakes out.

Another small update:
Short block is 99% complete, have everything to complete engine except an oil pickup tube. You would think Milodon wouldn't sell an oil pan without at least designing the proper pickup tube for the application, umm no, that isn't how they do things.

Building my own cage exactly how I want it to fit. Its been a helluva a bunch of work and makes this 42 yr old body sore. The bars you see here completed are all 1.75x.125 DOM and will add about 100-120lbs to the car unfortunately but I figure if it is what FIA specs, then that is how it will be based. The X and harness bar will be removable and .120 wall. The engine bars are .095 wall. Going to put .120 wall rocker bars in as well. Not going to X the doors this go around and YES, im keeping the backseat. Going with 3 point retractables for outside backseat belts and will have a 5 point in the middle.

While having my T56 apart to dial in bellhousing I decided to go ahead and install an oil sprayer for the input and countershaft bearings that starve for oil under high excelleration G's. Don't have a pump or cooler yet but figured if I get that far, the trans is ready on the outlet side anyway. Went with 8an and went to the hardware store and bought a brass pipe fitting and a weed sprayer fan nozzle for a total expense of about $30.

Nice car, I'm a ford guy but I wouldn't mind driving that at all. You've done some great work on it.

Your Dart is just simply bad ass!! I may be guilty of using some of your build ideas on my Demon. Did you find the humps on the inner fenders necessary with your current wheel & tire set up?

Copy away, most of whats done to mine I copied. The humps are not mandatory but would be if I ever went to a 315's then yeah when hitting corners hard.
