Grassroots Rallycross? (PT inside)

Does it exist in the US?

Would cool old iron done up to do be competitive be considered part of the PT scene? <--- Correct forum part. An old 1st gen Camaro build with no title ect.

Has it been done and I have failed at the forum search function? I've been building cars for looks and cruising, AKA restomods, but I'd love to build a purpose built race car. I just have little to no interest in AutoX and can take or leave road racing. I'd seriously do a Mustang II coupe build rallycross/streetfighter thing.

Rallycross to me looks like figure 8 meets autox. I LOVED figure 8 fullsize FWD class but the cars were just boring and slow.

One of the local sports car clubs here in NC runs Rally-X http://www.thscc.com/. I doubt you could be competitive with old Camaro when you'd be running against AWD Evo's and WRX's, to me it looks like and good way to ruin a car.

They do dirt hillclimbs (not what it sounds like) in Europe/Scandinavia with old U.S. iron. They run classics at Pikes Peak (check the "Mighty Falcon"). With my new 2.5-turn steering, I could only do auto cross with 24-inch arms... The arms would just get in the way of themselves...

I'll look forward to your thoughts on getting max suspension travel out of an old car--Baja-type suspension can of course be fitted to nearly anything...

I don't know if you'd need baja suspension for local rally cross, but i do suspect that travel may be a difficult task to find if you're intent on keeping the low slung PT stance.

I've looked into it a few times because rally cross looks like more fun(more drifting)

And the closest thing i could show you would be a video i stumbled on the other night. Its a fairmont wagon(mustang chassis) built for road racing that was owning on some rallycross:

Indeed. If I build such a car it will be for poo poo and laughs 1st and foremost out of a non title having piece of 2 door old iron. Engineering will come 2nd should I build and like what I am doing. Sierra Cosworths were very competitive in the World Cup Rally Racing despite being 2WD. This gives me hopes. The mixture of asphalt, gravel and dirt should prove to be a changeling engineering feat.

I just want to go sideways around corners on non-paved surfaces mixed with paved, in a grassroots motorsports setting with a cool old piece of iron. Sorry, but Focusi are boring race cars. Fine DDs, but lack a certain something a 75 firebird formula possesses. Falcons too. Falcons are cool.

Is it wrong I'd rather build a Falcon 2 door than a Mustang? Probably.

You don't need anything special to rallycross. The stock class champion for rallycross this year is a Miata (is there anything those cars cant do?). I am entering my first rallycross next year in the camaro. Here is a video of the northern CA championship course this year:
