I need help buying a video camera, but I know very little about cameras.
My spending limit is around 600 dollars. It would be used fo just about everything.

Buy any famous brand camera(Canon, sony, panasonic) with miniDV tapes (very clear & it takes less file space in your PC), then you need to buy the FireWire card for your computer if your PC dont have it. good luck.

JY211, sounds like you think like me. So much Sony in my house you'd think I was an employee! Have you seen the new "affordable" High Def camcorder they now have on SonyStyle? I'd like to shoot some videos with that.

Try being an employee !! ROFL.. Thank god they closed down the local family store and moved everything ONLINE.. Less temptation that way..

I have a run of the Sony 8mm digital camcorder and a firewire card and its great.. No issues with dropped frames and with the appropriate software you can do a number of resolutions to support any bandwiths..
