Anyone have a picture of your trunk lock and how the bar that extends into the latch attaches to the lock cylinder? When I install the bar and put the ock into the slot the key hole is horizontal when ready to unlock, but the key will not turn the 90 degrees to pop the latch, any help here would be great. Thanks.

Paul,

Go to the "advanced" reply and a couple of inches below the "Submit Reply" button will be a button marked "Manage Attachments". You should be able to attach the pics to the post that way.

Here's the deal: In 67 the lock hole was changed mid-way through the production year to the version that is factory on a 68. If you've put in an aftermarket tailpanel, it will require a 68 lock cylinder. If your key is horizontal, that probably means you have a 67 lock cylinder in a 68 hole. You will need to purchase a 68 Camaro lock cylinder for it to function correctly.

I'll add that if this is the same lock cylinder that was pulled out, and it worked before with the key being vertical, the you've got something bolloxed up.

Hmmm, very interesting, This sounds like where things are going wrong. So far as I know my Camaro did not have the tail panel replaced, but from the looks of this maybe it was (she did need a new rt rear fender from a previous accident). Thanks for the info.

I just received a new lock cylinder from classic and it was clocked 90 degrees from my stock unit. I know my tail section is factory, so obviously the locks make are different.

I just found my original and sure enough, they were 90 degrees out. Looks like I was either sent a 68 and needed a 67 or I was sent a 67 and needed a 68... still don't know which is which, but I know my old one fits correctly... Now if only I could find my old key... I'm gonna be up all night. Again.

Thanks for all the help everyone who responded.

Jack, your tailsection may be factory, but if your car was built late in the production year there is a good chance that they used the same tailsection that was used on the 68 models, which will require a 68 cylinder. I went through all this when I ordered mine. My car was built late in the year, and it required a 68. I found that out once I installed the new 67 cylinder I purchased from Rick's.....I promptly sent it back and exchanged it for a 68.
