swapped to a 9" SSBC brake booster from the factory 11".

unbolted the master cyl, did not disconnect the brake lines. just moved it forward to get the new booster in there. adjusted the brake push rod to the same length as the old one. installed it.

fired motor up, let it run up to temp. no pedal, and cant pump it up either.

there were no instructions with the kit. so nothing to double check with.

the pictures show the check valve on the bottom drivers side when mounted.

factory one was located on top passenger side. its vaccum so how can that be affected by position?

any ideas

69 camaro

i did not open the fluid side of brake system. only swapped the booster for the smaller 9"

Which pushrod did you adjust? From the pedal to the booster or from the booster to the master?

Check the pushrod from the booster to the master.

Pedal to booster.

Didn't see one from booster to master.

I'm guessing there's a problem with that!

Yep, you are looking for .020" to .025" clearance between that pushrod and the master cylinder. There is a tool available for that. Most aftermarket boosters are adjustable here. Yours could either be too long or too short, it is hard to say, but if I had to guess I would say too short.

Does it attach to the master or booster?

Or float in there?

I'm at a loss because I didn't see one in the old set up

It is attached to the booster. There was one in the old booster. It will all make sense when you take the master cylinder off. You may need to have some one push the brake pedal to be able to get at the locknut on the pushrod. Again, pull the master out of the way and it will all make sense.

My friend just went through this. His stock master used a long pushrod and the new booster had a short adjustable one so we made a short 'bullet' from a bolt to make up the difference. Look at your old master and see if the rod is still stuck in it. Maybe you dropped it while removing the booster. There are two different sizes, long and short

Nope, it's in there. Pulled master off and took this picture

Using old master cyl. Haven't changed that yet.

Ok, the new one is short, now take a picture of your master while disconnected, can you see the spot the pushrod pushes against. If you can only see a 'hole' then your master needs a long pushrod and your booster has a short one. Won't work. Push a small wire in to see how deep the hole is.

You can grind down a bolt to make a spacer to make up the difference.

If you can see the bottom I don't know what the problem is.

It's a deep master.

Rod will not come out of the new booster,

Cut a 3/8" trend moly push rod and stuck it in there. Works now! Hahaha

Temp fix.

I have 13" c5 brakes for front and 11" ssbc conversion for rear. Next couple weeks

And you should be able to unbolt it and rotate the booster so the vacuum hole is up so your connector can reach it.

Na, I want it low and out of the way

There are inserts available to go in the rod bore of the master cylinder that changes it to make it work with the short rod on the booster. Its just a slug machined to fit the bore and has a slight indent for where the rod contacts it. Be sure to leave a little room as you don't want it holding pressure on the spool valve.
