My wife has always loved the looks of these cars, both body styles.

I have found a company that is building replica's of both styles.

My question is---

If you update the bodies slightly, electronics, engine, interior and wheel / tire package.

The biggest issue I see so far with these two cars is there is no spare room for personal stuff for a trip.

Would one consider these PT styled cars.

I will post some orginal photos and some photo-shop edited photos.

Here are some pics of the different body styles I am talking about. None are of a factory built car but of Replica's by the company I am looking at getting the chassis and body work from.

I am leaning more to the Widebody version of the MK II or the Mk IV. The MK IV is not as common and that is more along the lines of types of cars I like to build.

I want to build one of these too -- it's on my list of future projects.

I'm building a Factory Five GTM now which is a similar kind of build but with a newer body design. Being a new body design I don't consider it PT at all. Everyone has their own definition of Pro Touring so if you think it's PT so be it. Just fired the LS-2 in the GTM this past weekend.

I like the FF GTM (John, I gotta see that car one of these days!), and I like the RCR Superlites.

I don't care if they are PT or not. I just want to take them to the track.

The GTM has a nice shape to it, but I have heard horror stories about the fit and overall condition of the bodies. From what I have heard there is a ton of body work that has to be done to make them look good.

I have been in two different RCR Superlights great cars. I am looking for something a little bit older, but would not mind building on also. Both the Mk II and MK IV kits are from RCR.

My other project I was planning fell though as there is just to much wait time on the body 9-12 months right now, plus wife would prefer one of these to the other we were looking at.

I heard RCR makes one of the best gt40 replicas out there. Plus the come with an aluminum monocoque. They are by no means cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Yes, that is correct, they use a Aluminum monocoque and billet suspension pieces. The hardest part if figuring out which version to go with. We love the classic MK II version. But the MK IV looks great also and not as common. Now just hope the purest out there do go crazy with use planning on doing updates to a classic car.

I vote MK II, it has the cleanest lines to it.

Talked with my wife more, the plan right now is to buy the MK IV for her and the MK II for me. Plan on building both cars for the street and track use.

Already spoke with the person who made the wide body fenders for the MK II and are have a set made and shipped for our car from Germany.

We are only going to purchase a basic roller set-ups and build the cars from there. Planning on going and seeing FRAN at RCR at the first of the month, when we go and see our daughter at college in Ohio, not a bad drive up to his shop from there.

Just have to finish my daughters 2006 Dodge Ram SRT pick up before then. All I have left to do right now is wiring and assembly so that should not take to long.

You won't be disappointed with Fran Hall. He's an exceptional guy and that is a cool shop with a wide range of component cars. The Superlite SL-C is my favorite and it's the real deal having won a NASA SU Championship.

I know it is the real deal, have got a few rides in one. Just if I could find a way to fit a Viper motor in it would make it even better. I am looking at little more old school for now with RCR40 Mk II and a MkIV. down the road hope to had a SLC but that will be a few.
