Been lurking on here getting some ideas
Plan is :
lowered suspension springs all the way around
all new bushings & ball joints
4 wheel disc brakes
17" rims & tires all the way around
sway bars front & rear

Going to reinstall interior & then paint car flat black & drive for a little while to save for paint job

Have replaced so far :
front floor pans
upper cowl panel & dash panel
lower outer cowls

I have all new sheet metal for front clip & 2 brand new doors
Need to replace both rear quaters & maybe rear tail section

Sounds like a nice project.. remember, sometimes you don't need a rear sway bar if you use aftermarket (stiffer) leaf springs :)

Just take your time with your project and thanks for the update pics!

Been a LONG time since updates .finally got the car painted. I painted it myself at a friends paint booth. Pics dont do car justice it looks killer.paint is flat black PPG DP90 base with PPG Flex & Flat clear.
Looks good with shaved handles .shaved drip rail & all seams & tag holes filled
Car runs & drives ,need to finish a few mechincal things, addd all trim parts on & get glass installed (the only part of the car I am not doing ) Glass will be mounted with rubber moulding using no chrome trim.

I want to drive the car this sumer so I will work on all other details as I go or over the winter

Looks amazing.

My honest opinion here? The flat black is menacing. I'd stick with it for a while. Myself I'd do a set of black wheels with a polished lip on them, and possibly a black vinyl top.

I agree , once it was done in this color & put the wheels on ...I dont think I will change it

Hi Brian,

I just spent a few hours looking over your pictures. Your progress is great. How are you doing the glass? With the rubber seal are you moving the glass flush with the sheetmetal? do you have pictures of the glass install? I want to mount my windows the same and would love to see how you are doing it.

Thanks for sharing your project again great job.

All pics I have on my signature pics

Here is the deal , the back glass & opening are stock untouched .The only thing done to the back glass was a black band was painted on (with glass primer) around edge, molding was then glued on. Rear glass was set in with tape & urethane glue.
The front has a some work into the opening.First the drip rail was removed which affected the pillar area.the top radius of the window opening were made more round & glass was ground with a bigger radius to let molding flow nice around radius. the pillars were extend to the top of fender. The cowl panel is mounted on in a different way due to the fact you dont need to use mounting clips .I welded 2 strips to lower cowl are & have 2 screws (covered in a plastic cap) holding rear of cowl panel down. The front glass also has a black band painted around it.Then the moulding was glued on.The front glass was also set in with glue & urethane

Thanks for the info. Where did you get the molding that you used?

Brian-Blade
06-23-2007, 04:29 AM
The guy that did the glass had the molding in his van .The back moulding & the upper front molding are the same size .The front lower (on the cowl panel) is wider.

Thanks Brian for all the great info. Keep up the great posts. I would like to see more of your project. Are you going to use the 67 wing vent? What are you using to open the doors?

Brian-Blade
06-23-2007, 05:10 AM
Yes I am using vent windows (that is the best feature on the 67 !) .I still need to paint the vent frame (flat silver color same as bumpers & grille).I am just using inside handle for now & once vents go in I can reach thru there. I dont see many times I am driving it that the windows wont be down or vent un-latched. I would like to run some electrical poppers but that is down the road . old school for now.
That car you are building looks real nice ,what is the eta for the car to hit the streets ?

I'm thinking next summer. The LS2 is in Chicago and this summer we are moving from California to Michigan. So we have been in house selling mode and I have been busy figuring out how I'm going to get my project there and work on it at the same time. I have also put a lot of effort into the rear end and attempting to finalize a kit I can offer to others:secret: . Along with all of that I travel for work and get only (in most cases) the weekends to make it all come together. I have a great family and they all help.:woot: I'm sitting in a hotel in Germany right now replying to your post.

Your project looks great and has given me a few ideas and inspiration. Thanks for the posts and the info. I have always planned to remove the drip rails and wanted to do the black rubber trim around the front and rear windows, but not that far along yet. I saw your post and thought I would ask the questions. My brother and father own a body shop and my brother comes to visit every so often and we spend some quality time on my project. I still have to replace the quarters, tail section and DSE mini tubs before I can go much further.

My Brother and I are working out details of opening our own shop in Michigan for these types of projects. We are a year or two off, but have made it a goal.

Keep up the progress posts and I hope to meet up with you in Ohio some time next summer.

Car looks great. I've always liked the flat black idea. Do you know how the paint holds up in the elements (arizona sun)?

Brian-Blade
06-23-2007, 07:30 AM
It will hold up as good as any base coat clear-coat.It is a pre-flattened PPG clear .Part# DCU2060 - FLEXED N FLAT CLEAR

Got started on next phase of work this weekend.
Pulled fenders & hood off , then pulled trans & engine.
Going to smooth firewall . I just bought a 383 @ 460 hp , still need to buy TKO-600. I picked up a 3.73 posi rear end over the summer & that is also going in.
Once all mechincal work is done I still need to finish interior.
I drove car all summer & fall & had a blast driving it.
With bad weather coming time to get to work

Specs of car:
Bmr upper & lower arms
QA1 coilovers
AGR Fast Ratio steering box
1 1/8 front sway bar
Soild body mounts

245/45/17 front 255/45/17 rear Hankook Ventus HRII on Replica Alloy rims
4 wheel disc brakes with Summit adj. pro. valve

Got the tranny shipped in yesterday & set the new motor & new trans set in last night.
It is just a test for checking firewall clearence to HEI . I am going to set back that area of the firewall a little bit make a radius notched filler panel ,as I thought I would have to as old motor was even closer.
That TKO 600 bolted up & the cross-member lined up dead nuts balls on !
I need to cut shifter hole a little bigger from the 4 speed shifter hole I put in (was an auto car).
Then pull the motor back & trans back out & start welding firewall panel on

Looks great! Are you not going to run wipers? If you are where are you hiding the motor? Man I'm being inspired to get out in the "Man Cave" and get some work done!

Brian-Blade
01-16-2008, 05:29 AM
No wipers , Rain-X if needed still need to install side glass , I drove the heck out of the car all summer & only got caught in the rain once
Down the road most likley run a hidden motor

How's your car progressing ?

Hi Brian,

Sorry for not responding before now. My project has been on hold since last August. We moved from California to Michigan. I'm almost settled in and ready to start back to work. I'm guessing I'll get the new sheet metal in place around March - April time frame. I have most of the suspension work done.

woke up to -12 deg's this morning. It makes it hard to get out and work on anything.

Nice progress on your project. Keep the posts coming.
