View Full Version : G-Machine Rigs - LOL!

I was going through some old design work on some of my CDs from back in the Tyco R/C toy days and I had forgotten about these R/C rigs that I did the styling and engineering for about 3 years ago. The rig style that was rendered blue that has more of a hood made into the stores. I personally liked the more cab-over version better. While I was looking at it I cracked up and thought "...G-Machine Rigs!!!!" OK, maybe it's a little far fetched but hey they do have racing rigs over in Europe I think...LOL
Anyways, thought you guys would get a kick out of these.

....Here's the prototypes. You can't see it but it's also a mid-engien style truck. The engien comes out 50% past the back wall of the cabs. Rigs with zoom pipes!!!

Those are cool! A truck manufacturer should buy those from you and produce them in full-scale.

Thanks guys. Hey Tony maybe that'll be your next book! RestoRigs!!!! How to Pro-Tour your Freightliner and Peterbuilt!

Could you imagine the turbo setup you could put on it? ...and 30" rims would actually be functional and proportioned for the vehicle!

LOL!

I have seen that which you speak of late at night on Speed Vision. The trucks actually look sort of similar to Johnny's designs. It's fun to watch big rigs apexing a corner at 80mph, lol!

Those look friggin awsome!!!

Yeah I've watched some of the Semi races on TV, that's some crazy shizzz. Especially when they run into each other!

The race trucks are limited to 100mph to make it safer for spectators, oh and they have water spray jets on the brakes to keep them cool!! :drive2:

As always I love your stuff. How do they go from drawing to prototype, is it done from a cad drawing or does a guy just carve them?

Any drawings you post are welcome.

The European race trucks are probably the most mind boggling things I've ever seen. The fact that they're so top heavy yet still corner like a sports car is flat out amazing! I think these designs are a lot cooler than the full scale trucks, maybe this will catch on!

Most of the stuff I do taking a rendering to a prototype is done by hand drawn control drawings (top, side, front, back) atleast for all the toy and diecast stuff I've done. I also accompany it with contour drawings. I take the 3D lineart and draw red gridded lines over the vehicle shape to help define the surfaces so that you can follow the shape of the body for prototyping. I did this with the designs I did for Tyler's 50/50 bodykit and with the 2004-05 GTO bodykit I designed for Arrowhead Performance. If your prototyper understands surfaces and production he can translate it pretty well from these drawings without even going near CAD or PRO-E, Alias, Rhino or any of that stuff. I do have some Alias and a lot of Rhino experience and will be doing some 3D drawings as soon as I upgrade my computer.

The fact that they're so top heavy yet still corner like a sports car is flat out amazingYou would be suprised at how low the CoG actually is on those rigs. In stock form an empty tractor will take a street corner every bit as fast as most street cars.

I have a 99 T800 in my stall right now, we have.....modified it a bit. Empty it will out accelerate a late model "F" body from a roll, we had it loaded with a 60,000 lbs tractor on a low bed and it GAINED speed climbing a 12% grade.

I would love to drop one of these things a couple of feet and see how they stick.

Hey Jonny, how about a couple PT style renderings with realistic style bodies? I like the Volvo but any of the newer conventionals will work.

I always wondered why steam always came out of the front wheel wells on those things!

I have a video of one of those Euro race rigs doing some tight corner drifting. I'll see if I can dig it up. Actually, I think it's from somewhere in South America. Not sure if this should be in the multimedia forum or not, but here's a link the clip. http://digitalphotolounge.com/displayimage.php?album=25&pos=5

Is it me, or do I see a little of the Cadillac front end in those renderings. I could see those with a big Cadillac emblem on the grille

JohnnyGMachine

Hey how about we do a DUB addition with wheel spinners!!! Naaah, just kidding.

Yeah you could do something of a Cadillac with it. Could you imagine a 16 cylinder turbo diesel???!!! Paint it black with a little more chrome in the grill area? Inside would have to be amazing with a full luxury treatment. I wonder how many truck drivers would buy an ultra-luxury edge-styled Cadillac rig? That'd be sweet. Who's gonna build it???

Hey buddy. You just leave that to us. :rotfl:

I dig the drawings. So if I read it right, that's a project you worked on at another company? Wild stuff.

Before I worked here at GMP I worked for Mattel designing Radio Controlled Stunt and Fantasy vehicles in the Tyco R/C group. I also designed the entire line of Water guns know as Shieldblasters and it is very successful. The last project I did before I handed in my 2 weeks notice to come here was a line of 1:10 scale drift cars called Drift Kings. I even helped them develop the trick chassis and drivetrain along with the custom S15 and RX-7 bodies and wheel/tire sets. I miss the projects but not the politics. Anyways the trucks are 1:32 scale and are full function (steering left to right, forward and reverse) The transmitter and cab can be packed up inside of the trailer for neat storage.

Don't worry Kris, no DUB stuff over here at the GMP camp - it's all you. Actually doesn't Mattel have the DUB license now. I think they went to Mattel right after I quit.

What happen to the drift car project?

JohnnyGMachine
08-05-2005, 11:57 AM
The drift cars are on Walmart.com - type in Drift Kings in the toy section search. $70 each. I'm gonna buy a set of 'em soon.

I did do an entire presentation on pro-touring to design, packaging, and upper management. I proposed Big Red, Mules, and doing the GT500E from Unique as radio controlled cars. This was way before all the Big Time Muscle, Pro-Rods or any of that stuff was even being thought of yet. Nobody "got it". In other words until it's already mainstream and 50 other companies are already doing it then that famous phrase comes out of upper managements mouth "why aren't we doing these - why are we always behind the curve?" DUUUUUUHHH! And this usually happend like clockwork - 6 months after we present this type of idea to them. Anyways I'd love to have a nice 1:6 scale gigantic 1967-1969 PT Camaro R/C car!!!!!!

My dad would eat those up! Man those are nice! Just like everything else. Do you have a fan club yet? hahaha. You could do a whole new lineup with those. 18 wheelers, flatbed trucks, tow trucks. (sigh) If only I had the artistry talent...well that, and about 190 million dollars.

Thanks guys, I really just like to have fun with the sketches and have been very blessed to be able to take my drawing talent and be able to make a living at it. I will be finishing up the first sketch this weekend of my Gen 5 project. As soon as everything is finished up I will have it up on my new webpage. Stay tuned.
