Looking for a reasonably priced crimper that will crimp the terminals found in the main terminal found on the e38 ecm's They are called MX64's
the terminal housing is http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?qs=oPDuosDifXHZ%2fDhld8hE4w%3d% 3d and the actual terminal is http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?qs=ZlMU7IUseCs4%252bVNWmNIWGA%3 d%3d
Mouser has a crimper but its like 400.00, I cant justify that for needing to crimp a few terminals. anyone got a suggestion. I have looked around but have not found any information on another crimper that crimps those size terminals...

Those are standard open crimp connectors. I got my crimper from Jegs for 25 bucks or so. You can probably find them cheaper on eBay.
This is a post I made in my Bad Ast thread after wiring up the gauge panel using Radio Shack "Molex" style connectors.
I got the Gauge cluster wired up tonight. I put 12v's to the lites and they lit up without any arcing or explosions so I was happy!
They are kind of dim. I was running them off my cheapo battery charger so they probably aren't getting a full 12.

The back. I will get to the final bundling after I get the shrink tube finished. It's kind of sloopy looking right now but it'll look nice once it's all cable tied.

I finally got myself a good Molex style terminal crimper. This one came from Jegs.

I did all six wire and insulation crimps with zero defects. These crimpers make this a no brainer, really.
First, strip the wire.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/09/MVC008Fvi-2.jpg
Crimp the wire side.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/09/MVC009Fvi-2.jpg
Then move to the next bigger crimp and crimp on the insulation. These are strong crimps, they aren't coming apart.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/09/MVC011Fvi-1.jpg
I then shoved the connectors into the housing. You can see how I labeled the connector with the wire color. Probably not necessary but it helps when planning the connections.

All done..

I have done a lot of wiring before so I am very comfortable doing it. I know a lot of people are intimidated by the "spaghetti"... If you want to learn more I would suggest picking up two books. Both of them are by Tony Candela and are very well written.
He touches base on all of the basics in his first book
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/09/39882075JPG-1.jpg
and covers some fairly in-depth projects in his second.

I have read through both of them a few times and everything I am doing here on the van I have either picked up through Tony's books or had my knowledge reinforced or changed for the better by him. The other thing I can tell you is, if you want to learn to do your own wiring, get out and do it. It's not that difficult and, with these books as reference, I think anybody could re-wire a car with little difficulty. Or just start small by tiding up all of those loose wires! :)

Thanks for the info Mark, I will look into that. the only thing that worried me is that these connectors are tiny... and none of my regular crimpers have and slots this small.

I see the connectors are sized for 22ga wire. The Jegs crimpers say they will go down to 24ga. I think these crimpers will work for you. Do you have any electronics stores in your area that would let you try a test?

Ya, there's an huge electronics supply store in Reno. I will go up there tonight after work and see what they have. and I can take a wire that already has a crimped terminal on it for comparison

Hey Paul, Thanks! The connectors are from Radio Shack. They have quite an assortment, from 1 up to 12 way and they aren't that expensive.

Those are similar to the .062 series Molex parts. They are available through many electronics distributors. I like Mouser.com.
If you do decide to try the Molex parts they are available in small quantities from most electronics stores. Mouser sells them at a much better price but you pay for the shipping.
Compare the Molex catalog P/N to the search engine results on Mouser to make sure you have the right parts.
Once you start using these things there's no going back!

Ya, I bought the terminals from Mouser and I found the part number for the crimper on the molex site but when i looked to purchase the molex crimper is was like 400.00 and I didn't want to spend that much so I have been looking for a alternative crimper that would work. just havent found one that says it will crimp those terminals. just gonna have to go to the electronic supply store in reno and look and see if I can find one that's real close enough to crimp that small of a connector.

Greg, did you have any luck with this? I bought a Delphi crimper from Waytek to do the Metri-pack 150 and 280 stuff that is found on most of the LSx component connectors. I bought some MX64 pins hoping I can use the same crimper. I'll let you know how it works out. The ones Astroracer shows above are also available through Waytek for under $30 and they will do Metripack 150 & 280 ends. I just feel more comfortable with a higher quality ratcheting crimper. This is the one I bought: http://www.waytekwire.com/item/509/CRIMPER-150---280-SLD-M-P/ I'll let you know if it works out.
I have been using eficonnection.com to figure out what connectors and terminals are needed. There are a few odd ones like the coils use 150.2 instead of regular 150 terminals and they are in fact different.

I actually found one at SummitRacing for about 29.00 that crimps them, works great and it was cheap.

That looks like the set used for the metri-pack 150 and 280s. You were able to crimp the Molex terminals for the ECM with it as well?
