J-440

Evening all. In the latest edition of HOT ROD, the very back section where they fix a random subscriber's car, a big block 460 Mustang was having starter issues because of temps reaching 240 degrees (heatsoak). One of the issues they fixed involved replacing his 35gpm electric water pump with a bigger 55gpm pump. Also, they added a 1 inch diameter Moroso spacer instead of a thermostat. I have the exact setup (Mopar 440) except with a 180 degree thermostat. The Pro-Touring books all say to use a t-stat for proper engine startup. Granted, this Mustang 460 was an ex drag car converted over to street. This may not apply to my car which is built for street/road racing. What say ya'll?
