How is it possible to fit a 10" wheel with a 275 on a Camaro but not on a Nova? Are the wheelwells wider on a Camaro?

I have C5 18x9.5's and after fixing my adapter thickness, the wheels fit perfect and don't hit anywhere except just barely rubbing on the sway bar (and it really is the wheel that's rubbing. The tire has maybe an 1/8" of clearance from the frame).

But the wheels are 9.5" as opposed to Ridetech's 10" claim, and the tires are only 245.

And my car is still on jackstands. I have a feeling that when I actually lower it, I'll have some rubbing.

Currently on AFX tall spindles and stock control arms.

Camaros have to be wider or something, I just don't see how it's possible to do it on a Nova...

I have a 72 nova with the tru trun and i ran the 48 hour camaro wheels on my camaro for a event. They just kiss the sway bar. You have the ride tech bar too?

I have 18x9.5 with 275s on the front of my car.

No I have a Hotchkis 1 1/8" bar. I was going to get the Ridetech bar for more clearance, but it doesn't look like it matters since I don't have the extra half inch per side to fit a 275. How much backspacing do you have? What control arms are you using and what's your alignment specs?

I already have a used 275 coming that I was gonna use to check for fitment, I was hoping to get 275's at all four corners. Not sure if that will work now...

I run a 18 x 9.5 with 6.6 bs on my nova, but the inner fender wells are modified heavily where the fender lip "WAS" the nova is about 3" narrower than the camaro in the wheel lips an they are lower Than a 67-68 i have about 1/2 inch clearance in between the tire and fender lip. its tight

The bar will help a ton.

I have 18x9.5" with 5.5"BS
I have DSE upper and lower arms. Alignment not sure what im running.

You can do 275's all around. I have done it.

Do you have any pics? I have 5.5" of backspacing as well but I just don't see it happening. There's just no way I can cram more tire on the inside of the wheel. It will hit the frame for sure. I've only checked on the driver's side, but I'm assuming the passenger side is the same.

i dont know about the combination you are running, but with the tru turn system you can fit an 18x10 wheel with a 5.75" backspacing and a 275/35-18 tire with very minimal trimmimg on the outer and inner fender on a 67-68 Camaro. No trimming at all on a 68-74 Nova, and no trimming at all on the Camaro if you drop down to a 18x9.5 with a 5.5 backspace. At full turn the inside of the tire will rub just enough to take the paint off the framerail.

Interesting, so I have the perfect backspacing then.

Does the tru-turn affect track width at all? I'm wondering if there's a difference in width between stock, AFX and tru-turn...

Did you have to roll the fenders or remove the inner fender or anything? I guess in a few days when the tire gets here I'll have my buddy mount it and I'll check clearance on the 275.

is it the spindles that give the tru turn system the extra clearance? if so does the afx spindles give the same clearance?

The tru turn system does not change track width. The system relocates the steering arms, tie tods and center link to gain wheel clearance and also has improved geometry that has little to no bump steer. The ridetech spindles that come w/ the tru turn system are 1 3/4" taller than stock to improve camber gain and have a 2" drop.

Maybe if it was all ridetech parts then maybe it will fit ? Maybe not... I am thinking about going with this suspension set-up also....

No, I know there was a thread by someone (I think MrQuick) where he installed the whole system on the car with stock control arms.

BUT!

I had my had my friend mount the 275 on my wheel and it fits! :smoke:

The wheel still rubs on the sway bar, so I'll have to get the Ridetech sway bar to take care of that, but it actually clears the frame at full lock turning both directions. The only thing I'm not sure of is the fender. I think with an agressive alignment I can get it to clear, but I don't know about a standard driver alignment. I'll get it back on the ground hopefully next week and we'll see what happens.
