It's going to be interesting to see what sorts of cars these new engines go into.

Yeah exactly. Guess I need to spend money on updating suspension now and put off engine upgrades.
26mpg though on the highway isn't very impressive to me. GM needs to come out with a better transmission too, like an 8 speed auto close ratio that shifts like the gtr dual clutch transmission.

I dont see a power steering pump in any of the pics. Is that an indication of anything?

69cutlassrkt,
If I'm not mistaken, there will be an 8-speed automatic coming out in the near future. As far as it having a dual-clutch function like the Nissan GT-R or even the super-fast DSG offered in the VW GTi, which came out back in '06, it's hopeful. GM's Allison 6-speed transmission found in the diesel Duramax in manual mode will rev-match downshifts, which is great for towing. GM should be able to apply some of these same technologies in the Vette and Camaros, too. Let's just say GM hasn't been as cutting-edge as it should be. I mean, in my opinion, they totally dropped the ball on small cubic-inch boosted applications like Ford's EcoBoost. Ugh (sigh).

How will the direct injection affect fuel systems in old cars? As far as fuel tanks, pumps and lines? I know the injector pressure is very high, like 2000psi. Will it be a major issue where the car is already set up for an LS EFI? Inquiring minds want to know.

Mike,
That's a great question. I think as more and more information begins to filter out about these new powerplants, that's definitely something we could tackle in an upcoming story. I wouldn't be surprised to see many of our aftermarket hero's like Holley or MSD coming out with some sort of retro-fit kit for preexisting systems. If you weren't aware, MSD is already coming out with a WIRELESS EFI system that's said to stand the industry on its head. It's being introduced this year at SEMA and ChevyHardcore.com will be there covering its release as well as doing LIVE SEMA coverage for the entire week.

I will certainly be watching for the answer. My son has an HHR with the direct injected 2.2 liter. Surely the fuel sytem can't be too complicated to be used in a lower end vehicle like this. But it will need to be dealt with before the engine is used in our cars.

Electric steering???

jlcustomz, yes, you're the second person to point that out. I had posted this into another thread and another member mentioned the possibility of electric steering as well.

Yes, electric steering......just like almost everything out there.
The direct injection, from my understanding runs on "normal" pressure until it gets to the real pump on the motor. That is where it gets bumped up to high pressure.
It looks like we are missing a motor mount boss, I wonder if the other three are in the same location relative to the bellhousing as a LS.
The LT1 nameplate drives me nuts, I get guys all the time that think an LS6 is a big block......and only a big block.

Totally confusing. When I get to SEMA, I'm asking Chevrolet about the LT1 name decision. I'd like to post up a news mention to explain the reasoning...

Yeah, the LT1 nameplate decision is disappointing to me.
"I want to do an LT1 swap!"
"I just vomited a little."
I'm kidding, but still, this is the 3rd or 4th motor named LTx.
