Article in the new Street Thunder magazine about this. Copy in MN stripping car bodies with this method.

It works awesome. My friend does this. He uses a plastic 55 gal. drum so he can do some pretty big pieces. He did a 12 bolt housing for me, had to do 1/2 at a time. It came out bare metal. No rust, crud, or paint. I have seen some other parts he has done and they all come out sweet.

Wish I would have known this sooner!!! Could have saved me a bunch of money:ripped:. Are you going to try it? I looks pretty easy.

Yes, it works, just a little slow. One door took a weekend to de rust. Got my info here-

I'll just sandblast and prime with zinc rich primer. By the time they get there contraption hooked up, i'll be in primer!

Frank, you're right, it ain't quick or anything. It works well for the guy going to work during the week and can come home to some clean parts for the weekend thrash.

I may try this, it couldnt hurt.

Yes it could literally. You don't want to touch anything metal while power is on, or you will look like this. :seizure:

I did it.It works, but is slow. I've had better luck with muriatic acid and water mixture. Fill up a storage tote or a rubber garbage can and let it soak. Heres some spring plates that were PURE rust and crust after a day in the acid bath.

WOW! That is insane. Now, does anyone have a pool I can borrow for a day or so? :)

I've used the muriatic acid method for years. Even before I knew better, and did structural suspension parts like spindles and control arms. Hydrogen embrittlment (sp?) is supposed to weaken the parts. So far the car has been on the road about 5 years with no problems/craking of those parts. maybe I just got lucky I dont know. But I wouldn't do crittical parts with muriatic anymore, just a "comfort" thing. Does the electrical method have any such effects on the metal?

I've used it on several small parts in a large plastic tote. The key is to get the electrodes as close to the part as possible without it touching. I did the differential cover in an ice chest....total of 4 hours had it completely clean!

A friend uses something other than a battery charger. He uses something that puts out more power and it strips parts a LOT faster. He uses a big wooden crate with heavy mill plastic traped in it to make it water tight. He did my cowl panel, bumper brackets, lower valence, and lower air baffle for my 69 Firebird in a matter of 2 days. Turned out GREAT!

Best used on small parts and as someone else said....for someone that works during the week and wants clean parts for the weekend.

What does he use? Is it a secret?

im trying it right now but im trying out some tubing for the electrodes since thats all i had

either tubing doesnt work well or my battery charger is too small, or a combination of the two but its taking a pretty long time to clean a fairly small piece of metal.

I used two tire irons for my electodes.
