I just ordered dse minitubs for my 69 camaro and I have a question about overall tire diameter. I have seen "rogers red z" on the speedtech website and it has a 20 inch rear wheel with a 345-25-20 tire on it. That is a 26.79 inch diameter tire. I was once told that a 69 camaro which is lowered should have a rear tire around or under 27 inches so this makes sense. Does anyone know how exact this needs to be? What I mean is, if I were to try to gain a little extra sidewall by using a 325-30-20 tire (27.68 inches diameter) is that too large in diameter to get the same ride height? The speedtech camaro has the top of the rim even with the fender lip. Basically I'm trying to figure out if I can get that same stance with a tire that is almost 1 inch bigger in diameter. I talked to speedtech and that red camaro is shown at ride height and doesn't have any rubbing issues.

I had my 69's rear fender lip down to the top of the rim with a 295/35/20 which is 28.15" tall.

Well that's good news. Was it minitubbed? Did you have any rubbing issues?

I have the same exact setup as Roger. I didn't have any rubbing issues on the street in a short driving time with the lip even with fender but when i took it autoX i had issues... I originally had it to the top of the lip but now its about 1/2" above & no issues.

Josh, so you had the 345-25-20 tires. Do you think you could have kept the lower ride height if you would have went with a 335 wide tire? Reason I ask is I kind of felt that 345 was really pushing it and I would easily be happy with a 335 or even a 325 wide tire.

Also remember that the difference in your first example 27.68"-26.79" = .89". But the difference in ride height is only half that (about .45"). What you look at is the radius of the tire/wheel combo, not the diameter.

Basically you are looking at the difference in height from the mid-line of the tire/wheel down, not the difference in overall height, if that make's sense.

Hello I was wondering if you ever got a solid answer to your question. I am trying to figure out the correct tire size for my 69. I am running an 11 inch wide rim and wanted to go with a 325-30-20 but not sure if I will have rubbing issues with if I have the lip of the wheel at the fender.
