I have been on here for many years, tried to help many and some have helped me.
Mnay on here I call friends and others dont know that I am a friend even though they cant see WHY I say what I say or do what I do.
My observations may not align with others but I was taught to look at everything with open eyes.
SO I have a clear idea for What If,,?, my 84 2dr Caprice,,,,big block, big brakes, big wheels, turns corners, but looks like GM could have built it.
so I am starting with a stock 454, supposedly from a 77 Winnebago, I think slightly newer as Winnes in 77 were Doge chassis, so maybe its even newer.
Anyway its going in stock and now do I use my 15s and spend money on new hard to find tires or simply get by, and put on a set of cheap steelies in 17 and wait for my Corvette replicas down road?
I could install the 12.8 C5 rotors, Kore 3 brackets and matching calipers. just bigger than stock big brakes, then up grade to S10 rear disc, and start on Air suspension work.
I had thought about using 18 in Vette wheels.
But Jeff Schwatrz Performance 2002 RSE Caddy set me to dream a little higher, he had 315/35/17 on 17x11 and 275/40/17 on what ever he had for front wheels,, need to look it back up. Basically he had ZR1 size rubber and I can still getthem through sumitomo, maybe Nitto.
But 255/45 and 285/40 are much easier to find if out nad having troubles,,and less mods to install.
I can also get cheaper steelies like Soft 8s.
Just wondering if fighting ofr that last bit of rubber would be prudent or do I just get with it. I have delayed for so long,, Imiss having a car to show off the little things I did to it or do to it.
I have the build itch just not lots of cash to scratch with.
But then I never have, so whats new?
Building a car or cars, just to take the first drive, do the first burn out, grow confidnet it WILL start and run and get me there.
The last 4 yrs have been harder and my struggling to get back upright has been hard,,,and I REALLY need some fun in my life.
Saw a means to get back into archery, indoor target stuff. I can shoot for $3 a night unless its a shoot night.
I now have a chance to get back into a hand built car, deal with that and rehone my skills that still make me a great mechanic and diagnostician.
Just wondering if there is a down side to taking a few smaller steps and then going up to my final plan.
I just cant see it, or am I blinded by boredom?
I have nothing to fall back on right now car wise, my Cavalier is getting long in tooth and mom wont sell me her spare car yet (she got grandmas car for helping take care of her till she passed on) and like I said Imiss having something to show people just how creative Ican be.
and I am still few parts shy of a good start on my Monza engine,,,close but not there yet.
Thanks to all my PT friends and hope this didnt come off too whiney, I miss having a garage or even a shade tree and garages are expensive and trees take too long. Last Wed was my birthday and I missed getting something going to hit Midwest Muscle Car Challenge.
