View Full Version : 1968 firebird steering column creaking/squeaking when turned slow, fixeable???

my steering column creaks like a ******* when turning slowly, it sounds like its down in the column rather that up to near the steering wheel. is there a rebuild kit available, or is it just a matter of taking the column apart and cleaning and lubing it all back up? I pulled the wheel off and sprayed some lithium grease on the shaft that I could get to. thanks.

There is a lower bearing in the column, it could be going bad...
don't panic yet double check that the steering box bolts (all 3) are tightened down and also double check the 2 idler arm bolts, I have had our auto cross camaros get that sound and its often from racing the bolts back out just a little

Jack up the front and Isolate where the issue is.
