Pros and cons, of attacheing roll cage to Body

I see alot of cars where the a and some C pillars are tied into the Roll cage. figuring the cage had already stiffened up the car whats the value and drawbacks?

it looks like a race car... you can remove some bracing in the body and just leave the outer skin to lighten things up..
also, it looks like a race car.
