View Full Version : What parking brake cable kit to use with Wilwood rear disc brakes

I have a new set of Wilwood 4 piston rear disc brakes with the internal drum parking brake. I have a 67 camaro and would like to hook the parking brake up. Are there cables out there that will hook up to the factory parking brake setup? If you have any pics and part numbers, that would be great.

I went with Lokar cut-to-fit cables for mine. You can make them work for just about anything.

So I'm guessing you got a cut to fit cable set and the correct clevis. Did you just replace the short rear cables with the cut to fit or did you replace the whole factory cabling? I've seen the universal kit that Lokar sells, but id rather use as much of the stock assembly as I can. Do you have any pics or what P/N you used?

Wilwood has cable kits also.

Wilwood has cable kits also.

Its just the lokar universal kit, which I may end up using if I have to. Just wanted to see if anyone has adapted the factory setup to work.

I have the complete Lokar first gen Camaro cable kit if you're interested.

I replaced all of mine because I relocated the ebrake to the console.

I used the wilwood cut to fit cable (same as lokar's) and adapted it to fit the factory pedal pedal setup in my s10. Where the two wilwood cables tie into one at the clamp block, I built a clevis that adapts to the the factory front section. It works well, but i find the factory mechanism doesn't have quite enough travel so I need to keep the shoe adjustment on the tighter side to make them effective on hills.

I have a -66 Mustang but I think the same parts fit... I used E36 (M3) e-brake handle and cables, two holes to floor and 4 brackets for cables. Splendid.

I ordered custom made rear cables (from the parking brake to the intermediate cable) from Inline Tube, and used the balance of the factory setup in my '68 Camaro. About the same overall price as the Lokar setup, but I prferred the factory look.

This is what I'm wanting to do. Can you elaborate on how the cables were built? Did you give them the specs?

I bought a new "reproduction" cable kit from Rick's Camaro (part number: PB-38) for my 68 and it seems to work after properly adjusting the Wilwood's. My car isn't on the road yet, but I've had it out of the garage on a pretty steep slope and the parking brakes were the only thing holding it in place.

www.controlcables.com can also make custom OE type cables.

Hey, as usual I'm a little late to the party, but I did this conversion on my first gen last winter and posted a bunch of pics on a thread on Team Camaro. Hope it helps someone: http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=204983&highlight=lokar

Perfect timing...I just posted this in my build thread today:

Since I upgraded to the Wilwood discs in the rear, my parking brake setup wasn't functional any longer. I bought the Lokar e-brake cable (EC-81FU) which replaces the intermediate and rear cables, and comes with just about everything you need. They sell a separate front cable to attach the foot brake to the new intermediate cable. I decided that I wanted to keep the factory front cable, so I did some mods and fabricated a mounting bracket. I finished up today, and it seems to work great.

Top pic attaches to the front cable, bottom pic to the rear brakes:

I decided to use the brass block as my tensioner. The brass cable block is drilled for 5/16-24, and of course the Camaro uses a 5/16-18 bolt for it's tensioner. Initially I tapped the block for 5/16-18 and it fit perfectly, but I realized that the block needed to be able to slide on the tensioner bolt, rather than be threaded on it. I drilled it out with a 5/16 bit later.

I cut a piece of aluminum to fabricate a mounting bracket for the cable housing.

Test fitting:

I sprayed it black and mounted it to the floor pan, this is the connection between the original front cable, and the new Lokar cable. I used two nuts on either side of the brass block, and can adjust the e-brake tension by tightening or loosening the nuts:

I just saw this reply. I';m swamped now, but will try to post what I did later today or tomorrow.

I'm doing the same thing as the picture above, great write up and pics to show it. Thanks. I am currently at the 'tapped the block to 5/16-18' point but will use nuts and do the same as this. Great way to adapt the universal kit to the front line for any GM muscle car.
