As I was under the rear of my car I noticed this weird flaking stuff inside my rear body panel(behind rear tire). It kinda looks like very old spray in bedliner stuff. Is this factory? Should it be there, and is it bad that its coming off. I can see what looks like rust underneath, so should I chip this stuff away and try to somehow fix the rust? Someone please help me with this.

looks like way too much undercoating was applied to hide something, i would definately strip it off and fix the under neath, it is probaly worse then it looks, strip that thing down

how much does it cost to get the body professionally stripped or blasted, like what they do on all the hotrod shows. I know there are other parts that are going to have the same problem and dont see any point in me just trying to fix one piece. I know when Holley built there roadrunner, they had the entire body dipped in some solution that disolved all the paint, bondo, and everything but the metal.

usually media blasting everything will run 600-1,000, dipping whole car and e-coatig is like 2,500 or so but does alot better job, however i would not have it dipped and e coated until i fixed rusted panels

Arent you supposed to get the car media blasted so you can see all of the spots that need fixing and obviously to clean up the car.

This really pisses me off. When I got the car 4 years ago it had just been painted which I thought was great because then I would not have to do that. But now that I have gained a little knowledge and experience with old cars I know that if a car is freshly painted when its gonna be sold it is ussually to hide something. Now I am seeing what they were hiding. I wish it could just be mechanical problems, then I could fix them.

This is rust, it's not your friend, it likes to make holes, and bigger holes,
