I thought you guys might be interested. I'm doing a pro-touring 1971 Firebird with a late-model Trans Am LS1 engine, tranny, wiring harness, dash, seats, console, speakers, heater core, and inner door panels. The suspension has coil-overs all around, 12.5" rotors with 4 piston calipers all around, and 315 rubber in back. The front and rear windows are flush, door handles and side markers shaved, and custom tail.
If you guys are interested, my website is www.extremefirebird.com (http://www.extremefirebird.com/) The car should be done this fall and hope to have it in the Dallas Automrama this winter. So check back at the site for updates later.

A 65 Impala SS would be very sweet too! Yeah, the heater core swap sucks... We just cut the '01 TA firewall and welded it on to the '71, but up top of the cowl where the wiper motor sits was tough to figure out. Had to cut some of the cowl to make it fit right and so there's a gap of only 1.25 inch or so for air to flow into the core.

Steevo, do you own Twist Machine? Would you happen to know if you guys will be coming out with an adapter for the pedals to fit a late-model firebird/camaro steering column? I want that column in the car so that it makes all of the interior, but I really want padal shifters from you guys also. Any ideas??? I bet a lot of late-model guys would want padal shifters too.
nice to see another 71 formula, when do we see more pics?

Yes and yes. We just finished up a universal model that works with a Grant #3196 adapter and the aftermarket steering wheel of your choice. We'll be field testing on an 02 T/A in about a week. Or PM me if you want to be the guinea pig in exchange for a discount. You must return install pix and measurements. Your car is a perfect candidate if you have the time. Thank you for your interest.

Are you using a fiberglass front nose? How does it fit? I was thinking of going that route because of weight, the stock one is a pig.

That thing's gonna be sweet when you get it done!
With all the modern upgrades I'd like to see a set of CCW 505As like Yodi has on his bird on that car!
Are you building it to keep for yourself or to sell?
Twin turbos would be nice too!

Cool car. You are going to love the feel of that modern interior in there. I know I sure do. If you ever get tired of the 2001 gauge cluster let me know. I stuffed 5" Autometer gauges in mine. :)

I checked out your Formula site. It looks BAD lowered like that. It definitely looks good! I like your engine and tranny combo.
More pictures will be up in maybe a month or so... we still need to finish up on blocking through the doors and fender, etc. then it will be panel painted. After that, it won't take much to get everything bolted on. I already have all of the other parts primed and painted ready to go.

I'm using a stock rubber nose... and yes, they weigh a ton! The 73 nose weighs a bit more than the 70-72. I didn't go with the fiberglass though incase I tap the nose on something. You might want to go with fiberglass though, b/c with the rubber nose, you will need to use a flex additive when priming and painting so it doesn't crack later. Something to think about.

Building it for myself and for my dad to play with every once in awhile. I might sell it if the right offer came along.
Nice bird of your own by the way! The red really looks sharp with the chrome wheels!
I like the CCW 505As, but I already bought the Torque Thrust IIs and F1 AQCD Goodyear rubber a year ago and they weren't cheap! hahaha.

I like what you did with the Autometer gauges. I actually saw a thread on DFWStangs website couple weeks ago for your Camaro.
It wasn't too hard getting the dash in... the width is perfect, and only needed to make some brackets for it to bolt up.

Oh really my Camaro was on a mustang site? Do you have the link for it? Hopefully it was good feedback.
Im glad you like the autometer gauges. I actually have 6 of those gauge pods available right now for sale as of last night. They should bolt right into any 4th gen trans am or firebird dash. Mabey even Camaro dashes too. So if you decide your interrested let me know.
You are right it wasnt too bad at all geting the dash structure in there. I have 6 brackets. Even the back seats were very easy. Now the 3 point seatbelts were a little harder. Especially the front ones. Took some thinking and had to be perfectly level to function and lock properly when cornering hard or hitting the brakes. :icon996:

If you go here, http://www.extremefirebird.com/Bodymods.html there is a picture second from the bottom that shows a piece a filler steel welded in the mount the window up higher. It's not really hard at all to do that, but the problem you run into later is the roof warping. If you're up for block sanding on the roof for a real long time, then it would be a great modification!

So how did you use the late-model seat belts? I can't figure out where to put them, and make it look nice. The upper part of the shell underneath the sail panels isn't very thick. Where did you put yours? I looked at your sites, but I couldn't find any pictures.

Even though not much has been done to the car over the past few months, I did update the webpage a little bit... added some more pages to make room for when the suspension will be put on soon and for the interior. Some of the interior trim pieces and a kick panel have been covered in vinyl, but I don't have the pictures downloaded yet. And with Barret-Jackson on, I kinda doubt I'll get to it soon. hahaha. A side door panel from the 2001 TA is getting closer towards completion, but not yet.
www.ExtremeFirebird.com (http://www.extremefirebird.com/)
The game plan we have so far is finishing up on a few more panels to be painted then tackling the '01 TA wiring harness for the '71. We're going to see how relocating the fusebox to the trunk works out. Hopefully by late March, she will be a roller with the LS1 in it. Once the wiring is done, we basically have everything else prepped and painted and ready to be bolted on. The interior will need a lot of time too... We'll ultimately turn the Bird into a two seater and finish the rear very nicely. See how a center water fall piece, like what the later Corvettes have, looks like.
